You Can’t Build God’s Kingdom by Hurting God’s People

Chapters & Summary
Returning Jewish exiles faced poverty and were forced to borrow from wealthy nobles who charged exploitative interest rates. When poor Jews couldn't repay debts, they were forced into slavery, prompting them to bring this injustice to Nehemiah's attention.
Leaders questioned whether the internal exploitation issue could wait until after the wall was completed, viewing the people's suffering as an obstacle to accomplishing God's vision. This reflected a tendency to deprioritize people's needs when pursuing organizational goals.
God's kingdom cannot be built by taking advantage of the vulnerable or neglecting those who suffer spiritually and emotionally. True leadership requires caring for people more than protecting the program or vision.
