[12:43] I I was in Sullivan before. [12:47] Okay. Um, [12:52] oh, take a moment to calibrate yourself. [12:57] grandchildren, [12:58] children, [13:00] friends, [13:02] fellows, countrymen, [13:06] let's take a moment to even though [13:09] everything we do is about it, let's take [13:12] a moment to remind ourselves why we came [13:14] here today, right? who we are, who God [13:19] is, [13:22] the difference he's made, and ask him [13:25] for a greater revelation of it. [13:30] >> That sound good? [13:32] >> Yes. [13:33] >> Yes. [13:34] >> Yeah. [13:38] >> Okay. So, we'll continue on on page [13:41] five. [13:51] Blessed praise, glorified and exalted is [13:54] the name of the king who rules over [13:58] kings. The holy one who has given us the [14:01] way of salvation and Messiah Yeshua. [14:03] Blessed is he [14:06] >> for the first and he is the last [14:13] God. [14:24] She [14:26] is [14:29] Adonai. [14:32] Eloh. [15:06] Where are you? [15:22] Fore! [15:30] Foreign! Foreign! [15:40] for [16:08] adon. [16:09] Elohim. [16:28] And Yeshua said, [16:33] "Love you all. [16:45] Make a modern. [17:03] Open my mouth, O Lord, and my lips will [17:06] proclaim your praise. [17:08] Blessed are you Lord our God and God of [17:11] our ancestors God of Abraham and Jacob [17:16] our God who remembers Sarah Rebecca [17:19] Rachel and great mighty awesome God who [17:25] loven [17:30] to ours [17:35] for the sake of your [17:38] You are the king who helps and shields. [17:42] Blessed are you Lord of Abraham. [17:46] >> Your might, O Lord, is boundless. You [17:48] give life to the dead. Great is your [17:51] saving power. You sustain the living [17:53] with loving kindness. In your great [17:56] mercy, you give life to the dead. You [17:58] support the falling, heal the ailing, [18:02] free the fed. Whose power can compare [18:05] with yours? You are the master of life [18:08] and death who brings forth salvation. [18:11] Faithful are you in giving life to the [18:13] dead. Blessed are you, oh Lord, who [18:15] gives life to the dead. [18:58] Hallelujah. You are holy and holy and [19:02] the holy ones give you praise. [19:05] >> Blessed are you Lord God. [19:09] >> Being found in appearance as a man, he [19:12] humbled himself by becoming obedient to [19:14] the point of death, even death on a [19:17] cross. For this reason also God highly [19:20] exalted him and bestowed on him the name [19:24] which is above every name. So that at [19:26] the name of Yeshua, every knee will bow [19:29] of those who are in heaven and on earth [19:33] and under the earth and that every [19:35] tongue will confess that Yeshua the [19:37] Messiah is Lord to the glory of God the [19:40] Father. [19:41] >> Moses rejoiced in the gift bestowed on [19:44] him when you called him faithful servant [19:46] placing on his head a crown of glory as [19:49] he stood before you on Mount Si. In his [19:52] arms, he carried the two tablets of [19:54] stone on which the commandment of Sha [19:56] was Shabbat was inscribed. Thus, it is [19:59] also written in your Torah. And we turn [20:01] to the back of our sedor page 34. [20:19] The door [20:25] is [20:30] la [20:47] Israel [20:50] shorito [21:12] is [21:14] a shab. [21:26] Shabbat [21:30] shar. [22:11] >> Purify our hearts to serve you in truth [22:15] and favor our God. Let us [22:22] rest on this day [22:24] on this day. Blessed are you Lord. [22:30] >> Accept, O Lord, the prayer of your [22:31] people as it is offered. May the worship [22:34] of those who call upon your name always [22:37] be acceptable to you. May our eyes [22:40] witness the return of our Messiah to [22:42] Zion. Blessed are you, O Lord, who [22:45] restores his presence to Zion. [22:48] >> We gratefully acknowledge that you are [22:50] the Lord our God and God of our [22:53] ancestors forever and ever. [22:55] You are the source of our strength [23:01] every [23:11] forces which are daily with us and for [23:14] your wondous kindness at all times [23:17] morning and night. [23:20] >> You are good with everlasting mercy. You [23:23] are compassionate with joy and loving [23:25] kindness. From long ago we have placed [23:28] our hope in you. May all thanks to you [23:34] for you are [23:38] blessed are you Lord for your name is [23:41] good and give you praise. [23:44] >> Grant true and lasting peace to your [23:46] people Israel and to all who dwell on [23:49] earth. Bless us, our father, all of us [23:51] as one with the light of your presence. [23:54] For in the light of your presence, you [23:56] gave us, Lord our God, the Torah of [23:59] life, love of grace, righteousness, [24:01] blessing, mercy, life, and peace. May it [24:05] please you to bless your people, Israel, [24:08] in every season and at all times with [24:10] your gift of peace. [24:12] >> Blessed are you, oh Lord, who blesses [24:14] his people with peace. [24:16] Magnified and sanctified be his great [24:18] name in the world which he has created [24:21] according to his will. May he establish [24:24] his kingdom during your life and during [24:26] your days and during the life of the [24:28] whole house of Israel even swiftly and [24:31] soon and say [24:32] >> amen. [24:33] >> Let his great name be blessed forever [24:36] and to all eternity. [24:38] >> Blessed, praised and glorified. Exalted, [24:41] extolled and honored. Magnified and [24:43] lauded be the name of the holy one. [24:46] Blessed be he. Though he be high above [24:48] all the blessings and songs, praises and [24:51] consolations which are uttered in the [24:53] world and say amen. May he who makes [24:56] peace in high places [24:59] upon us and all Israel and saying amen. [25:03] >> Amen. [25:05] >> Good to see you all. Shabbat shalom. [25:07] When we're not together for one week, [25:09] doesn't it feel like it's been eons? [25:11] >> Yes. Yeah, we walked in and we're [25:13] completely disoriented. We're like, [25:15] wait, what's our regular thing we do [25:17] here? So, good to see you all. And for [25:20] those of you on route, it'll be good to [25:22] see you when you arrive. And um we thank [25:25] you for those of you who are watching [25:27] online. We're blessed by your [25:30] participation as well. And we hope we [25:32] can be a blessing to you. So today we [25:35] are having a deli and discussion on okay [25:39] and uh that will be in here and after um [25:44] after the um beginning video setup the [25:47] children I'll be going with Nata and um [25:51] possibly one other um adult to go back [25:55] and do a Shabbat school lesson while the [25:57] rest of us have a different kind of [25:59] lesson. We're going to be doing some [26:02] in-depth looking at parat. [26:05] Hopefully, you all read it, and if not, [26:07] you probably remember it from all the [26:09] years you did read it. Okay, this week, [26:12] Monday, we have scheduled an online [26:14] prayer meeting at 9:15 a.m., but please [26:17] watch for um check the calendar because [26:21] uh depending on the timing of something [26:24] else, that meeting may get cancelled. [26:26] So, just be aware of that. This [26:29] Thursday, we are having prayer for the [26:31] peace of Jerusalem with Morning Star [26:33] Christian Fellowship and others uh from [26:36] 7 to 8:00 p.m. We encourage you all to [26:39] come. You know, just because things calm [26:41] down a little bit doesn't mean that we [26:43] ever need to stop praying for Israel. [26:45] And uh what I can tell you is that all [26:48] over Tel Aviv, they are beginning to set [26:51] up um portable bomb shelters again. And [26:55] that's usually not a good sign. So [26:58] something seems to be up that isn't [27:01] public yet. So we really do need to be [27:03] praying for Israel constantly. [27:06] Next Shabbat, special special guests. [27:10] Father Aaron Kush Soulberg and his wife [27:13] Isabelle and their two sons and one on [27:17] the way of boy or girl, I don't know, [27:20] but another child on the way are going [27:22] to be with us and they're going to share [27:24] about their missional work in Northwest [27:26] Territory, Canada. They work with a lot [27:29] of First Nations peoples, indigenous [27:32] peoples, others. Um so we many of us [27:37] know Kush and family his um birth family [27:40] um from way back when he was just a a [27:44] boy right and now he is this grown man [27:46] who loves the Lord and is serving in the [27:49] Anglican church and uh so this is going [27:52] to be really exciting to hear what [27:54] they're doing and it's an opportunity [27:55] for us to bless them one tribe to [27:58] another you know the tribe of Israel [28:01] blessing some of the tribes of of [28:03] Canada. So, we encourage you to come um [28:08] invite others to come come with open [28:11] ears and generous hearts to bless them. [28:14] Uh they are literally living off of [28:16] whatever basically comes in on that [28:19] plate which um when you're serving that [28:21] group of people is not much. So, we [28:24] really would like to u bless them well. [28:26] And I think you're going to be [28:28] encouraged by um hopefully hearing more [28:30] of Kush's testimony. How does a nice [28:33] Jewish boy who's not a believer become [28:36] an Anglican priest of all things, right? [28:39] So, it'll be great. Okay, we are not [28:42] going to have a soup and salad on next [28:45] week because we have special guests. [28:47] We're going to do a full on and that has [28:49] been changed on the calendar and uh I [28:52] think the email I sent out was [28:53] incorrect. So, I will send out a [28:56] followup. We are having a full on next [28:59] Shabbat. [29:01] any uh food [29:03] >> preferences, dietary things? [29:06] >> I have no idea. Um I um I imagine where [29:10] they're living they pretty much eat [29:12] anything. [29:12] >> Yeah. But in terms of allergies or [29:14] >> Yeah, I can I can look into that. Um [29:17] they're a little hard to communicate [29:19] with right now as they're traveling [29:21] because they're in and out of things, [29:22] but that's a good thing I will um ask [29:24] ahead of time. Okay. So, please continue [29:27] to give to Israel here or um even better [29:30] through the links we have on our web [29:32] page and the Facebook page. It gets to [29:34] them faster if you give directly. And [29:36] then we have a lot of people we are [29:38] praying for. Uh Misha Barak for all of [29:42] the war wounded. Uh Verona [29:46] for my husband who um fell and kind of [29:50] uh uh fell on his tailbone area up in [29:53] the Catskills. So, uh, pray for him. Um, [29:57] our daughter, my cousin Steve's wife, [30:00] Carol, many of you met when they were [30:02] here visiting, uh, broke her ankle [30:05] significantly on the steps in Sicily. [30:08] And so, she had to have surgery. You can [30:11] identify with that. and uh her foot up [30:14] elevated and now she's going to move [30:16] Monday into rehab and they be may be in [30:19] the rehab there for a full month before [30:21] she's able to walk enough to be able to [30:24] return home. So, um keep her in prayer, [30:27] please. You can continue to pray for me. [30:30] Um, Amy, Arena, Cheryl, Betty, Brett, [30:35] Phil, Craig's grandmother, Jenny, [30:38] Joanne's cousin, Susan, Bill's brothers, [30:41] Robert and Fragard, and his sisters, [30:44] Janet, Ron, Dean, Mom and Dad. We're so [30:49] glad to have you back, Dean. [30:53] Woo. [30:55] So, especially now that we have Dean and [30:57] they don't, please pray for Dean's [30:59] mother and father and his mother-in-law. [31:02] Pray for Francis, Marty, Craig's uncle [31:05] Louie, Keith, Morty, Heba, Selma, and [31:09] Joanne, and Florence for their vision, [31:12] Jan, Martha, Sana, Dena's mom, the [31:15] Crossroads Christian Fellowship people. [31:18] And then we have people battling cancer. [31:21] Frank, Donna D. [31:47] Lime disease. [31:48] >> Oh yeah, Kelly has lime. So pray for [31:51] Kelly. [31:52] >> Uh heard about one of my other uncles [31:55] has cancer as well. [31:57] >> Okay. Um so update me on that. We'll put [32:01] him on the cancer list. [32:02] >> I keep forgetting, but I [32:03] >> with the name. Great. Anyone else? [32:09] >> Aba Father, we just thank you. We thank [32:12] you for your heart's desire to heal. And [32:16] uh we thank you for your compassion upon [32:20] each one whose name has been mentioned. [32:23] And those that we've forgotten, we know [32:25] you haven't, Lord. So we ask that you [32:28] would move upon them to restore, to [32:31] heal, to strengthen and enliven them. We [32:35] ask Lord for a speedy complete healing [32:39] of the soul and of the body along with [32:42] all the ill among the people of Israel [32:44] and all humankind soon speedily without [32:48] delay. Be mu. [32:50] >> Amen. [33:00] Before we pray for Israel and the United [33:02] States, I'd like to read from Psalm 20 [33:05] uh 122 [33:08] starting in verse six. Pray, Lord, [34:07] give us wisdom and guidance and who we [34:11] should vote for in our uh state. We just [34:14] thank you and praise you for being who [34:16] you are and the compassionate God that [34:19] we serve. And we ask it in Yeshua's [34:21] name. Amen. [34:23] >> Amen. [34:56] The Torah reading is from Genesis 9. [35:00] Well, wait. The blessing [35:06] The blessing before the Tori [35:09] is on page 19. [35:24] I have a [35:44] >> Okay. The Torah reading is from Genesis [35:47] 9 [35:48] 1 through 29. [35:56] God blessed Noah and his sons, and he [35:59] said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply [36:04] and fill the land. The fear and terror [36:07] of you will be on every wild animal, and [36:10] on every flying creature of the sky, [36:14] with everything that crawls on the [36:15] ground, and with all the fish of the [36:17] sea, into your hand they are given. [36:22] Every crawling thing that is alive will [36:24] be food for you as are the green plants [36:28] I have now given you everything. Only [36:31] flesh with its life, that is its blood, [36:33] you must not eat. Surely your life blood [36:37] will I avenge. [36:39] From every animal and from every person [36:42] will I avenge it. From every person's [36:45] brother will I avenge that person's [36:47] life. [36:49] The one who sheds human blood by a human [36:51] will his blood be shed. For in God's [36:54] image he made humanity. But as for you, [36:58] be fruitful and multiply. Flourish in [37:00] the land and multiply in it. [37:03] Then God said to Noah and to his sons [37:06] with him, saying, "Now I, behold, I am [37:10] about to establish my covenant with you [37:13] and with your seed after you, and with [37:16] every living living creature that is [37:18] with you, in including the flying [37:21] creatures, the livestock, and every wild [37:24] animal with you, of all that is coming [37:26] out of the ark, every animal of the [37:29] earth, I will confirm my covenant with [37:31] you never Never again will all flesh be [37:34] cut off by the waters of the flood, and [37:37] never again will there be a flood to [37:39] ruin the land. Then God said, "This is a [37:43] sign of the covenant that I am making [37:45] between me and you and every living [37:48] creature that is with you for all future [37:51] generations. [37:52] My rainbow do I place in a cloud, and it [37:55] will be a sign of the covenant between [37:57] me and the land. [38:00] Whenever I bring clouds over the land [38:02] and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I [38:05] will remember my covenant that is [38:07] between me and you and every living [38:10] creature of all flesh. Never again will [38:13] the waters become a flood to destroy all [38:15] flesh. When the rainbow is in the cloud, [38:19] I will look at it to remember the [38:22] perpetual covenant between God and every [38:25] living creature and all flesh that is on [38:28] the land. [38:29] Then God said to Noah, "This is the sign [38:32] of the covenant that I have confirmed [38:33] between me and all flesh that is on the [38:36] land." [38:38] Noah's son who came from the ark were [38:40] Shem, Ham, and Jabth. And Ham was the [38:45] father of Canaan. [38:46] These three were Noah's sons. And from [38:50] these the whole earth dispersed. Then [38:53] Noah, a man of the soil, was first to [38:56] plant a [38:58] vineyard. [39:00] He drank some of the wine, got drunk, [39:03] and was uncovered in his tent. Then Ham, [39:06] Canaan's father, saw his father's [39:08] private parts, and told his brothers [39:09] outside. So Shem and Jafett took the [39:13] cloak and laid it over both their [39:15] shoulders, and walked back backwards, [39:18] and with it covered their father's [39:20] private parts. But their faces were [39:23] turned away, so they did not see their [39:25] father's private parts. When Noah woke [39:28] up from his wine, he learned what his [39:30] youngest son youngest son had done to [39:33] him. So he said, "Cursed is Canaan. The [39:37] lowest slave will be to his [39:41] um will be to his uh [39:44] brothers." He also said, "Blessed be [39:47] Adonai, God of Shem, and let Canaan be [39:50] his servant. May God enlarge uh Japheth. [39:54] May he dwell in the tents of Shem and [39:56] may Canaan be his slave. Now Noah lived [40:00] 350 years after the flood. So all Noah's [40:04] days were 950 years. Then he died. [40:18] The blessing after the Torah reading [40:23] is on page [40:26] 21. [40:39] All [40:46] right. [40:49] So, for this week's um for Torah, [40:53] let me get my [40:56] materials. [41:00] I will uh be focusing on Genesis 8:20. [41:06] But uh No's para um No's para is about [41:11] preservation and the continuation of [41:14] life. And we see this in the context of [41:17] the choices he made. Noah hed God's [41:20] instruction in not only taking care of [41:24] his family and the rest of creation, but [41:28] his obedience spread life into his [41:31] present moment and into the future. [41:34] I want to read Genesis 8:20. But before [41:37] starting that, um I want us to uh [41:41] consider that the preservation of life [41:44] also happens in the context of gratitude [41:48] and honoring the one who provides us [41:50] with what we need. [41:54] And for some reason, I went to Joshua. [42:03] So 8:20 [42:06] Noah built an altar to Adonai. Then he [42:09] took from every clean animal and every [42:12] clean bird and he offered burnt [42:14] offerings on the altar. Adonai smelled [42:16] the sweet aroma and Adonai said in his [42:19] heart. I will never again curse the [42:21] ground because of humankind since the [42:23] imaginings of a person's heart are evil [42:26] from his youth. nor will will I will I [42:30] ever again destroy all living things as [42:34] I have done so long as the earth exists [42:37] sewing time and harvest cold and heat [42:41] summer and winter and day and night will [42:44] not cease. [42:47] So all of these acts of obedience have [42:50] led to where we are right now. So, [42:54] I only have a couple questions for us to [42:56] consider, and we you don't need to [42:58] answer them right now. What choice can [43:01] you make today that produces life? [43:05] How can the choices you make today [43:07] affect your relationships and life in [43:10] the in the future? [43:38] Blessing before the haftar read. [43:46] Fore [44:11] is [44:19] Amen. [44:26] >> You just end up in different places [44:29] they have. [44:39] >> I feel like we should throw candy or [44:41] something to celebrate. and you're back [44:42] up here. [44:44] >> I'll throw Imaginary candy. [44:46] >> Going camping right after this. [44:50] >> Men's camp over starting right now. [44:53] >> I I am glad to be back and I truly [44:56] apologize [44:57] for not being here for the high [44:59] holidays. [45:02] >> You were [45:04] I I know that. But at the same time [45:07] >> at the same time I was [45:10] >> I was missing [45:12] So we [45:15] >> uh the haftar reading today comes from [45:17] the book of Yeshiu Isaiah [45:21] um beginning with chapter 54 verse1 and [45:24] concluding with chapter 55 verse 5. [45:32] Sing baron one who has not given birth. [45:36] birth burst into singing and shout, "You [45:40] who have not travailed, [45:42] for more are the children of the [45:44] desolate than the children of the [45:46] married ones," says Adonai. [45:50] Enlarge the place of your tent. Stretch [45:52] out your tab tabernacle curtains. Do not [45:56] hold back. Lengthen your cords. [45:58] Strengthen your stakes. For you will [46:01] spread out to the right hand and to the [46:03] left. Your offspring will possess the [46:06] nations and will resettle the desolate [46:08] cities. Fear not, [46:11] for you will not be ashamed, [46:14] nor cringe, for you will not be [46:17] disgraced, for you will forget the shame [46:20] of your youth, and you will remember the [46:23] rep you will remember the reproach of [46:26] your widowhood no more. [46:29] For your maker is your husband. [46:35] Adonai, oh is his name. The Holy One of [46:38] Israel is your redeemer. [46:40] He will be called God of all the earth. [46:45] For Adonai has called you back. Like a [46:49] wife deserted and grieved in spirit, [46:52] like a wife of one's youth and is [46:54] rejected, says your God. For a brief [46:57] moment, I deserted you, but I will [46:59] reather you with great compassion. [47:05] In a surge of anger, I hid my face from [47:07] you for a moment. But with everlasting [47:10] kindness, I will have compassion on you, [47:14] says Adonai, your redeemer. [47:17] For this is like the waters of Noah to [47:20] me. For as I swore that the waters of [47:23] Noah should no more cover the earth, so [47:27] I have sworn [47:29] that I will not be angry with you, nor [47:33] will I rebuke you. [47:36] Though the mountains depart and the [47:38] hills be shaken, my love will not depart [47:42] from you, nor will my covenant of peace [47:46] be shaken, says Adonai, who has [47:49] compassion on you. [47:53] Afflicted one, storm passed, [47:56] unconsoiled. Behold, I set your stones [48:00] in antimony. Lay your foundations with [48:03] sapphires. Make your pinnacles of [48:06] rubies, your gates of crystal, and all [48:09] your walls of precious stones. All your [48:12] children will be taught [48:15] by [48:16] Adoni. [48:19] Your children will have great shalom. [48:24] In righteousness you will be [48:26] established. You will be far from [48:28] oppression, for you will not fear, and [48:32] from terror, for it will not come near [48:34] you. Behold, anyone fiercely attacking [48:38] is not from me. [48:40] Whoever stirs up strife with you will [48:42] fall because of you. Behold, I created [48:45] the smith who blows the fire coals and [48:48] produces a weapon for its work. And I [48:51] created the destroyer to ruin. No weapon [48:54] formed against you will prosper. And you [48:57] will condemn every tongue that rises [48:59] against you in judgment. This is the [49:02] heritage of Adonai's servants. Their [49:06] vindication is from me. [49:09] It is a declaration of Adonai. [49:12] Ho everyone who thirsts, come to the [49:15] water. And you who have no money, come [49:18] buy and eat. Come by wine and milk [49:21] without money and without cost. Why do [49:24] you spend your money for what is not [49:25] bread, your wages for what does not [49:28] satisfy? Listen diligently to me and eat [49:33] what is good [49:35] and delight yourself in abundance. [49:39] Incline your ear and come to me. Listen [49:42] so that your soul may live. [49:48] I will make an everlasting covenant with [49:51] you. The trustworthy loyalty to David. [49:56] Behold, I made him a witness to the [49:58] peoples, a leader and commander for the [50:00] peoples. Behold, you will summon a [50:02] nation you do not know, and a nation [50:06] that did not know you will run to you. [50:09] because of Adonai your God and the Holy [50:12] One of Israel. For he has glorified you. [50:37] Blessing between readings. [51:08] The [51:11] reading today is from Matthew 24 [51:16] starting in verse 36. [51:19] >> Yeah. Is that something new? [51:21] >> That is something new. Let's see if I [51:23] remember. [51:25] >> It is. uh literally new testimony. [51:29] >> Um so we are shifting to calling these [51:33] readings are the new testimony [51:40] 36. [51:44] But of that day and hour no one knows, [51:48] not even the angels of heaven, nor the [51:51] Son, except the Father alone. For just [51:55] as the days of Noah were, so will be the [51:59] coming of the Son of Man. For in those [52:02] days before the flood, they were eating [52:04] and drinking, marrying and giving and [52:06] marriage until the day Noah entered the [52:09] ark. And then they did not understand [52:12] until the flood came and swept them all [52:14] away. So shall it be at the coming of [52:18] the Son of Man. Then two and two men [52:22] will be in the field, one taken and one [52:24] left. Two women will be grinding at the [52:27] mill, one taken and one left. [52:30] And therefore stay alert, for you do not [52:32] know what day your lord is coming. But [52:35] know this, that if the master of the [52:37] house had known what time the thief was [52:39] coming, he would have kept watch and not [52:41] let his house be broken into. So you [52:45] also must be ready, for the son of man [52:47] is coming at an hour you do not expect. [52:51] Who then is the faithful and wise [52:54] servant whom the master put in charge of [52:56] his household to give them food at the [52:58] proper time? Blessed is the servant [53:01] whose master finds him so doing when he [53:04] comes. [53:08] Blessing after the final reading. [53:15] Elohim. [53:42] Amen. [53:47] >> And just a word before the children come [53:49] up for the blessing. Um just a little [53:53] word on why we made that change. uh we [53:56] had a native Israeli with us and he uh [54:01] made the observation that what the [54:03] church world calls the new testament and [54:07] some people uh in the messianic movement [54:10] called the call the brick kadesha which [54:12] means the new covenant he he bristled at [54:16] that and he said well you know it's [54:18] really just new testimonies [54:21] these are the new testimonies like he [54:23] could see that it's a continuous work. [54:26] This is someone who does not name the [54:27] name of Yeshua yet, but he could see [54:30] that this was additional testimony given [54:34] about God. It's a continuing story. Um [54:37] so rather than calling it um um also [54:41] some places call it the baser which just [54:43] means good news. And he says yes but [54:46] like especially in Israel most Jews go [54:48] oh that's New Testament that's new [54:50] covenant. And so um he was like but it's [54:53] the kadesh it's new testimony and there [54:58] was something about that really that [55:00] just grabbed us as yes that's what it [55:03] actually is and that new testimony [55:06] includes the new covenant in Messiah [55:09] which did not do away with the covenant [55:11] we just read about right and didn't do [55:14] away with the Abrahamic covenant didn't [55:17] do away with anything else right there [55:19] it's additional things So, what do you [55:22] all think? [55:22] >> Yeah, I [55:23] >> Great. Okay. Now, let's come up and [55:26] bless the children and do it because we [55:28] all agree on that, too. [55:44] >> Seems like forever. [55:54] I don't know if you might be too loud. [55:59] >> Such a proessional. [56:03] >> You know, I like that idea. I'm going to [56:05] grab a blessing. [56:09] Open. [56:32] >> Okay. [56:36] Look at you. [56:43] >> Thanks again, Lord, for these children. [56:56] Raipka Rael Vala. May God make you a [56:59] Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leia. In the [57:03] name of Messiah Yeshua, we bless you. [57:06] Maru [57:23] Remember [57:29] the wood? [57:38] >> She shoots a [58:13] We have power [58:16] >> from on high. who gives us also power [58:20] >> in our natural world. Hallelujah. [58:24] Well, are you ready to magnify the Lord [58:28] together? [58:30] >> Let's do it. [58:46] Blood might [59:14] be [59:17] divart. [59:28] Come magnify the Lord with me. [59:32] Magnify the Lord with me. [59:35] Yeshua. [59:37] Yeshua. [59:39] Yeshua. [59:42] Come magnify the Lord with me. [59:46] Magnify the Lord with me. [59:50] I shall [59:53] Yes. [59:56] We will praise your glorious [60:01] name. [60:02] Yes, we will praise your glorious [60:07] name. [60:16] Yes. [60:18] Yes. [60:19] Yes. [60:21] Yes. [60:32] Yeshua. [60:33] Yeshua. [61:07] Let us exalt his name. [61:10] And let us exalt his name. [61:14] Yeshua, [61:20] you're our king [61:24] and redeemer. [61:27] You're our king [61:31] and redeemer. [61:45] Yeshua. [61:56] Yeshua. [61:57] Yeshua. [61:59] Yeshua. [62:02] Mayor. [62:10] Halorship [62:13] forever. [62:17] Magnify the Lord with me. [62:20] Magnify the Lord with me. [62:24] Yeshua. [62:25] Yeshua. [62:27] Yeshua. [62:31] Magnify the Lord with me. [62:35] The Lord with me. [62:38] Yes, I shall worship you. [62:44] We will praise your glorious [62:49] name. You [64:53] are the God of all creation. Hallelujah. [64:58] Heat. [65:14] Heat. [65:21] Oh, [65:32] hey. [65:52] Lord of all creation, [65:59] a water, earth and sky. [83:10] Oh God of Jacob, [83:15] we seek your face. Oh God of Jacob. [83:44] Um, I was just thinking of um [83:49] um just like a like a bride and um groom [83:53] and I don't know what what the words [83:56] are, but I was just kind of thinking to [83:59] let um I mean letting yourself letting [84:03] yourself be loved or letting yourself be [84:05] um I don't know if the word is be um let [84:09] yourself be um enamored or something [84:12] like that or by by the husband. [84:15] I don't have the right words but [84:17] something like that. Just let yourself [84:18] be enamored by by the Lord. Um yeah, [84:33] worthy of every song we could ever sing. [84:40] Worthy of all the praise we could ever [84:43] bring. [84:47] worthy of every breath we could ever [84:50] breathe. We live for you. [85:00] Yes. You are the name above every other [85:03] name. [85:07] >> Yes. You are the only one who could ever [85:10] say. [85:14] >> Worthy of every breath we could ever [85:17] breathe. We're there for you. [85:21] We're there for you. [85:23] >> Worthy. [85:27] >> Worthy of every song we could ever sing. [85:34] Worthy of all the praise we could ever [85:37] bring. [85:41] >> Worthy of every breath we could ever [85:44] bring. And we're for you. [85:54] >> Yes. The name above every name. [86:00] >> Yes. You are the only one who could ever [86:03] say. [86:07] >> Worthy of every breath we could ever [86:10] brea. We live for you. [86:14] Oh, we live for you, [86:19] holy. There is no one like you. There is [86:24] none beside you. Open up my eyes in [86:30] wonder and show me who you are and fill [86:35] me with your heart and lead me in your [86:40] love to all around me. [86:52] Worthy of every song we could ever sing. [86:58] Worthy of all the praise we can ever [87:01] bring. [87:04] Worthy of every breath we can ever [87:07] bring. We live for you. [87:17] Yes. The name above every other name. [87:23] You sure are the only one who could ever [87:27] sing. [87:30] Worthy of every breath we could ever [87:33] breathe. We live for you. [87:37] We live for you, [87:41] holy. [87:43] There is no one like you. There is none [87:47] beside you. Open up my eyes in wonder. [87:54] Show me who you are and fill me with [87:59] your heart and lead me. [88:02] Every other around me. I will build my [88:09] life upon your love. It is a good [88:16] foundation. [88:18] I will put my trust in you alone [88:25] and I will not be shen. [88:30] I will build my life upon your love. It [88:38] is a foundation. [88:42] I will put my trust in you. alone [88:49] and I will not be shen [88:54] holy. There is no one like you. There is [88:59] none beside you. Open up my eyes in [89:05] wonder. Show me who you are and fill me [89:11] with your heart and lead me in your love [89:15] to those around me. [89:27] Worthy of every song we could ever sing. [89:34] Worthy of all the praise we could ever [89:37] bring. [89:41] Worthy of every breath we could ever [89:44] breathe. We live for you. [89:55] The name above every other name. [90:01] You are the only one who can ever save. [90:08] Worthy of every breath we can ever [90:11] breathe. Oh, we live. [90:51] Shalom. [90:59] I said you're missing me no more. I'm [91:01] here. [91:07] >> Um [91:11] I want first of all to thank everyone [91:16] for all of your prayers and concerns. [91:20] It meant a great deal to me [91:23] and I'm sure it had an effect. [91:27] Um, [91:32] that being said, [91:34] I I was listening to a podcast yesterday [91:40] um [91:42] that had that that was just basically a [91:45] reflection on [91:47] uh it was from about three years ago, I [91:50] guess, basically a reflection on um [91:55] the Torah portion of today and its [91:57] relation to October 7th. [92:01] And it was a conversation and and there [92:04] were a few things in it in it that just [92:07] struck me and I just [92:10] felt moved to share them. [92:15] It began with a [92:18] well it didn't begin actually they were [92:20] talking for a while first but anyway [92:22] sidetracking [92:25] Did [92:27] it was they spoke about how um [92:31] when it talks about how there was kamas [92:35] in the earth in the times of Noah, how [92:41] all flesh [92:45] was corrupted [92:50] >> and all the earth was corrupted. [92:59] And the indication is that the that [93:02] Hamas [93:03] violence has a real effect. [93:08] And I think if if we if we watch things [93:12] with a lot of violence in it, it does it [93:15] has an effect on us. It has an effect on [93:18] our soul. [93:25] And yet [93:27] my my takeaway from the podcast was a [93:30] reflection on gratitude [93:34] because uh they they talked about a [93:37] story. [93:40] Well, it was it's a real life story, a [93:43] real life account and and it was at the [93:45] time because one of the gentlemen in the [93:48] podcast was at a hotel in Israel at the [93:52] time where a wealthy individual had put [93:56] up a lot of people who had been [93:58] mandatorily evacuated from one of the [94:02] towns near the area where the violence [94:06] occurred. [94:09] and [94:11] they had a wedding at the hotel [94:15] the week following [94:18] the attack. [94:20] The wedding was scheduled to have been [94:22] in the area of the attack and it didn't [94:26] occur obviously because they were [94:29] mandatorily evacuated. [94:32] So they had their wedding at the hotel. [94:35] And normally at a wedding uh the people [94:38] that give the blessings [94:41] are the parents. [94:45] But there was a woman there who wanted [94:47] to provide the blessings. And after she [94:50] told the story to the parents, they [94:52] agreed to it. [94:55] And this woman had been [94:58] in the town that was mandatorily [95:01] mandatorily evacuated. She had actually [95:03] lived on the edge of it [95:06] and they were in bed. Her and her [95:09] husband were in bed and she looked out [95:14] her window and saw in the garden [95:18] um two uh military officers. [95:22] And she made mention to her husband how [95:24] odd it was that there were two milit [95:27] Israel military officers in their [95:29] garden. [95:31] And her husband looked out the window [95:33] and said, "Those are not Israeli guns. [95:38] quietly get up and go to the safe room. [95:43] And they both quietly got up and went to [95:45] the safe room. [95:48] Those soldiers ended up going into their [95:51] house, searching their house, pretty [95:54] much destroying their whole house. [95:56] Thankfully, they never found them in [95:58] their safe room. [96:01] And they they weren't soldiers. They [96:03] were actually Hamas that was [96:06] impersonating [96:08] Israeli military soldiers. Um, hence not [96:12] Israeli guns. [96:14] Um, so they made they made it out alive [96:17] and she she was at this hotel with this [96:21] couple that was getting married and she [96:23] was providing the blessing and she told [96:25] this story and she said [96:28] she said yesterday my house was invaded [96:31] and destroyed [96:35] but today I am happy to be here [96:40] providing blessings [96:42] to new life [96:45] because we do not postpone [96:49] celebrations of joy. [97:07] Oh man. [97:09] Yeah, there's there's something to that. [97:13] Um, [97:22] I remember when I was a kid, I was at a [97:26] I don't remember which fair it was. It [97:29] was a big fair somewhere in the Midwest [97:33] and um I didn't see it happen, but [97:39] um a kid got killed on a ride [97:43] that day when I was there. I heard about [97:45] it [97:48] and I looked around [97:50] and I saw all these people laughing and [97:53] having fun and going on rides and and um [97:59] you know I guess in a sense you could [98:00] say they were they were celebrating [98:03] being alive and just being able to have [98:05] fun. [98:06] And I remember thinking [98:10] this is I was just I was a little kid. I [98:13] remember thinking, "This is just wrong. [98:15] Everything should stop. The fair should [98:18] stop. The carnival should shut down. [98:20] Everybody should go home and just like I [98:23] mean, I don't know what I thought they [98:24] should do, but just like go, "Wow, [98:26] somebody died. Let's, you know, let's [98:28] take a moment." And uh I mean, it really [98:32] seemed wrong to me. It It was really [98:35] disturbing to me. [98:37] And and slowly over time, you know, I [98:41] realized [98:43] the things like that are happening all [98:45] the time. [98:48] Maybe not in every location, [98:52] but if everything shut down anytime [98:54] something like that happened, everything [98:56] would always be shut down. [98:58] And um and I think I mean there [99:04] there may be other examples, but it [99:05] seems to me from what I do know that um [99:11] among the Jewish people and and now in [99:16] the new state of Israel [99:21] that um [99:24] the suppression [99:26] of joy and celebration just isn't [99:29] something that's done. I there are there [99:32] are some minor exceptions [99:36] um things that you don't do on certain [99:38] days under certain circumstances, but [99:40] but the thing is uh life is a gift and a [99:44] wonder [99:46] and um we aren't really ever supposed to [99:50] stop rejoicing and celebrating life and [99:54] the fact that God gave it to us. [99:58] and especially that he gave us new life.
[100:01] So,
[100:02] but but still, you know, you could think
[100:04] about that account that you just gave,
[100:07] go, well, that was that was such a short
[100:10] time after that. Shouldn't everything
[100:12] have just been cancelled? Well, no. No,
[100:16] but I mean it and it may not um you
[100:19] know, it's not like the horror of what
[100:22] happened
[100:24] was meant to be suppressed or shut down.
[100:27] It just wasn't supposed to end up ruling
[100:30] over life itself and the continuation
[100:36] and the blessing of the bridegroom and
[100:39] the bride and
[100:42] you know the the whole thing. So
[100:45] >> otherwise evil wins.
[100:47] >> What?
[100:47] >> Otherwise evil wins.
[100:49] >> Yeah. And um I think I think there's a
[100:53] real example in that uh for us and well
[100:56] and especially those of us that might
[100:59] lean toward
[101:01] um
[101:06] too much toward mourning when we hear
[101:08] bad news. You know uh some of us are
[101:11] more that way than others.
[101:14] Some are more resilient. Some people
[101:17] appear to have, you know, literally
[101:19] everything run off their back like water
[101:22] off a duck's back. And by the way, if
[101:24] you haven't ever watched water run off
[101:26] of a duck's back, it you should try to
[101:29] get the opportunity because it just
[101:31] plain
[101:32] it does not wet them. It's it just rolls
[101:36] off.
[101:38] Um
[101:39] and you know, we need that. And so the
[101:42] thing is I think the only way
[101:45] if if you're ever conscious of your
[101:48] purpose
[101:49] and and this is true of perhaps purposes
[101:52] that aren't the absolute highest,
[101:56] but um the longing for um a return to
[102:02] the land and to Jerusalem never went
[102:04] away among the Jewish people.
[102:07] And you know, it's pretty notable
[102:09] really. It's like re really for how
[102:12] long? What? How on earth did that
[102:15] continue?
[102:17] How did that continue?
[102:19] It I mean I don't know that I don't
[102:22] think there's another example in all of
[102:24] history
[102:26] where any people or group lasted that
[102:29] long in the hope of restoration of what
[102:33] had been lost.
[102:36] res restoration from exile.
[102:40] There are there are some
[102:44] fairly enduring stories that I mean
[102:46] they're nothing like that one, but um
[102:53] it it's and and I would say that it's
[102:56] actually grasping
[103:01] um
[103:02] the depth of prophecy.
[103:06] and having been called
[103:10] >> um and actually I I I got to say in some
[103:14] ways I've always seen it displayed among
[103:16] totally secular Jewish people
[103:20] and I've always thought
[103:23] it just can't get away from her calling
[103:25] even if they're pursuing it almost
[103:28] against her calling.
[103:29] >> Yeah. I mean, it's whether they're going
[103:32] to save the world through organic
[103:33] farming or, you know, I mean, there's a
[103:36] whole you can make a long list of the
[103:38] things that I'm talking about people
[103:41] I've actually met. There's something
[103:43] about the restoration
[103:47] of the world in one way or another that
[103:50] drives
[103:52] just drives within
[103:54] the Jewish heart.
[103:57] And um anyway, I I think we should
[104:00] remind ourselves
[104:02] not to suppress joy and celebration
[104:06] and we may need to remind ourselves of
[104:08] that very often.
[104:10] Um so yeah, that's so that is good. Um,
[104:16] I'm I'm hoping to
[104:20] I'm hoping to share a few things with
[104:24] relative
[104:25] briefness.
[104:27] Uh maybe um briefness is the cousin of
[104:31] long- windedness.
[104:35] So, you know, you got to sometimes pick
[104:38] which relative to go with. Um
[104:43] but uh Lord, I I just I thank you for
[104:45] your word. I thank you for this group of
[104:47] people. I thank you for everything we've
[104:49] brought us you brought us through.
[104:54] And I just ask you to uh
[104:59] fill us Lord with your love and your
[105:03] compassion
[105:05] for others that and that you would teach
[105:07] us the depth and the way of uh loving
[105:12] ourselves properly
[105:15] so that we can love others well.
[105:19] Um,
[105:20] and I I just ask you to
[105:24] bring out some things
[105:26] out of your
[105:28] word today that would be of use to each
[105:32] person whether it'd be the same thing in
[105:34] each case.
[105:36] Just we everything comes from you.
[105:42] The produce comes from you. The new
[105:44] growth comes from you.
[105:47] And uh we thank you that we don't have
[105:49] to create it, but that you've involved
[105:53] us in it. So help us to be involved
[105:58] in Yeshua's name.
[106:00] >> Maru.
[106:02] Um so
[106:06] um
[106:13] so in and you know I I found myself
[106:16] after uh we we didn't have a meeting
[106:22] uh for the first Torah portion
[106:26] uh and that in some ways really bothered
[106:28] me and then I was thinking Well, I'll
[106:32] just I'll just go with the first Torah
[106:34] portion. But then that, you know,
[106:36] something gradually happened to that
[106:38] thought. It it didn't exactly erode, but
[106:41] um but I couldn't completely overcome
[106:44] it. So
[106:46] um this is a um
[106:49] um
[106:51] this is from
[106:55] Jewish literature.
[106:58] Uh, Rabbi Hamus said, "What does it mean
[107:00] you shall walk after the Lord your God?"
[107:03] That's and that's from Deuteronomy 13:5.
[107:07] Is it possible for a person to walk and
[107:10] follow in God's presence? Does not the
[107:13] Torah also say, "For the Lord your God
[107:16] is a consuming fire." Deuteronomy 4:24.
[107:20] But it means to walk after the
[107:22] attributes of the holy one. Blessed be
[107:25] he. Just as he clothed the naked, so you
[107:28] too clothe the naked. As it says, "And
[107:31] the Lord made the man and his wife
[107:34] leather coverings and clothed them." Um,
[107:39] I don't know whether the Hebrew word
[107:40] literally means leather or not.
[107:43] Uh, I'm not too concerned about it, but
[107:46] I got to say half the time I've imagined
[107:48] them in in fresh skins that hadn't even
[107:53] dried out yet.
[107:55] But but I don't know. and uh and and the
[107:59] more you look at the Torah and if you
[108:02] look closely at this week's Torah
[108:04] portion,
[108:06] the the shest thing you could come to is
[108:09] the realization that there's an awful
[108:11] lot that we don't know. Um well, it may
[108:14] well that may not be the shest, but it's
[108:17] it's it's pretty sure.
[108:19] Um anyway, so I thought, okay, well,
[108:24] right in the beginning,
[108:26] um the man and the woman are created, I
[108:30] I would say, and perhaps it's ironic or
[108:34] seems paradoxical,
[108:36] they were created clothed, but yet they
[108:39] were naked.
[108:42] Uh, and nakedness
[108:44] really when it comes right down to it,
[108:48] it is about
[108:50] a realization of the state you're in
[108:53] accompanied by shame.
[108:56] So if there's no shame,
[108:59] there isn't any nakedness,
[109:02] which I mean we can still see it with
[109:04] very very young people, very young, like
[109:07] you know, very very short.
[109:11] They they don't know.
[109:14] You know what I'm talking about?
[109:16] >> They run around with nothing on. They
[109:18] don't And I mean, even in front of like
[109:20] a visitor that shows up that they
[109:21] haven't even met
[109:23] there's no shame. They don't
[109:26] they're clothed. They they are wearing
[109:28] their birthday suit. They came in it.
[109:33] And but eventually at some point
[109:38] uh that changes it. it always changes.
[109:43] >> And um and then there's the awareness
[109:48] of nakedness
[109:51] and you know that can include all sorts
[109:53] of things. But so here we have man in in
[109:57] one sense at least becomes naked. They
[109:59] become aware of it and they hide and and
[110:03] God clothe them. That's um who would say
[110:06] that's an act of kindness?
[110:11] He's he's it's not like he's just trying
[110:13] to cover them up so that he can't see
[110:15] them because he can't stand them
[110:16] anymore.
[110:18] And he he's he makes provision for them.
[110:23] For it's it's not the final provision,
[110:25] but it's a provision
[110:28] to deal with
[110:30] the nakedness right then at the time.
[110:35] And so, and then, you know, I'm not
[110:37] gonna hover there, but the um
[110:41] if we go on into uh
[110:45] the next Torah portion
[110:49] um
[110:52] nakedness comes up again.
[110:57] And um
[110:59] actually, oh, you know what? Um
[111:03] Oh. Oh, yeah. I I the um
[111:08] the first thing I read was
[111:11] it was commentary on the first Torah
[111:16] portion, but it's it's actually in a
[111:19] chapter about Noah
[111:22] um because of that very fact. So
[111:26] Noaku uh lived in a time when
[111:31] um there's there's all kinds of things
[111:33] said about the time before the flood
[111:35] that the the different species of
[111:38] animals were mating with each other that
[111:41] everything was just completely
[111:43] corrupted.
[111:44] I I don't know. Um
[111:48] but it it there are some really wild and
[111:52] crazy things said about it.
[111:56] Um but
[111:58] the uh
[112:00] in in the writings of the apostles,
[112:03] we're told that um Noah was a preacher
[112:07] of righteousness.
[112:10] and and actually in rebbitic literature
[112:13] that it's there
[112:16] that he was ridiculed
[112:18] that that he he's given this project and
[112:22] he plants cedar trees
[112:25] and you know it's a long period of time
[112:27] he waits for them to grow and then he
[112:30] cuts them down and I mean at different
[112:31] points he's ridiculed for different
[112:33] things and nobody listens they don't
[112:36] listen they don't realize it all until
[112:38] it's too
[112:40] And I don't know, does anybody here
[112:42] think that God was giving people a long
[112:47] period of time in which to possibly
[112:49] repent?
[112:49] >> Yeah.
[112:51] >> Yeah.
[112:52] >> I think so.
[112:54] >> Um there are times when you read
[112:56] something and it looks like all hope is
[112:58] gone and it's just destruction is
[113:00] coming.
[113:01] And and in some instances throughout the
[113:04] scriptures when I read them, I think,
[113:06] well, wait a minute, but you know what?
[113:08] If
[113:10] But what if they what if they had
[113:12] repented?
[113:13] And uh thing is God God doesn't desire
[113:16] the death of the wicked. He doesn't take
[113:18] pleasure in the death of the wicked.
[113:21] But um anyway, nobody listened.
[113:25] So anyway, the the earth is destroyed
[113:28] and and and what's happening here in
[113:32] Noak, I mean, is it that it's creation
[113:35] is beginning over, right? Not not quite
[113:38] the same. Not from nothing,
[113:42] but it's all destroyed. It's all covered
[113:43] with water. It was covered with water in
[113:45] the beginning.
[113:48] And then, you know, gradually
[113:51] the land starts to appear again from
[113:54] under the water.
[113:58] And there's a new beginning.
[114:01] And um I don't know how how did a new
[114:04] beginning go? How long did it stay
[114:08] um
[114:11] in really good order if not
[114:12] imperfection?
[114:15] >> We don't know how long it took for those
[114:16] grapes to grow.
[114:18] >> Yeah, that's true. Now,
[114:22] there are all kinds of things said about
[114:24] Noah and his vineyard
[114:26] and and is getting drunk. all all kinds
[114:30] of things and they and they're in some
[114:32] of them are diametrically opposed to
[114:34] each other but there in in rebbitic
[114:38] literature in in one area that there it
[114:41] doesn't it never says just one thing
[114:45] it says Noah brought a a root of a vine
[114:50] from the garden of Eden along with him
[114:54] and then planted it to reestablish Eden,
[114:58] you know, after the flood
[115:00] and then you know and then
[115:03] obviously gets this vineyard going and
[115:05] then he gets drunk and um
[115:10] you you'll notice that the Torah makes
[115:12] no moral comment at all about the fact
[115:15] that he got drunk. It doesn't say he
[115:17] sinned and got drunk.
[115:20] It doesn't it doesn't say a lot.
[115:24] Um, and I don't know, do you I it's hard
[115:27] for me to imagine there was no alcohol
[115:30] before the flood,
[115:32] but you know, we don't have any record
[115:34] of it.
[115:35] But at any rate, Noah's drunkenness
[115:39] could have been the result of
[115:43] inexperience.
[115:46] And uh I myself know something about
[115:48] inexperience under that heading.
[115:52] So, it was not my proudest day,
[115:56] but I had no intention of even becoming
[115:59] intoxicated,
[116:01] >> but I and I was I was what I was about
[116:04] 22
[116:06] couldn't have been more than 23
[116:10] >> and I wasn't thinking enough about who I
[116:12] was with.
[116:14] But but there's this if you've watched
[116:16] me drink water or almost anything at
[116:19] times especially if it's cold uh cold
[116:24] I mean I could drink a half a gallon of
[116:26] milk without stopping no problem at all
[116:30] when I was young and sometimes I
[116:31] actually did I never I never right out
[116:34] of the carton I never tipped it downward
[116:37] and um you know I can drink a quart of
[116:40] water like it's one sip for some people.
[116:44] And so, you know, if I'm drinking
[116:45] something, it just goes down my throat.
[116:47] I wasn't thinking at all about it. And
[116:49] and anyway, the result was
[116:52] um I mean, it actually I have no idea. I
[116:56] don't even know how much it was,
[116:59] but when I opened a car door
[117:03] on the passenger side when we got home,
[117:07] I poured out just like the wine came out
[117:10] of the the bottle in the park.
[117:13] And and then now I realized I real I I
[117:18] was not happy with myself or my
[117:21] condition. I I remember I remember
[117:23] saying, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm
[117:26] sorry. You know, like I mean I I was
[117:29] like ashamed the and being intoxicated
[117:32] didn't change that. I still felt it even
[117:35] though I was intoxicated. And maybe a
[117:38] thorn I maybe I wouldn't have felt a
[117:40] thorn if it had gone into me. But I I
[117:42] but I felt everything else about it. I
[117:45] just it was like boy this is like this
[117:47] is just so tragically sad and wrong. But
[117:53] but I learned something from that. It's
[117:54] like, oh, you know, not all liquids are
[117:59] created equal.
[118:03] If you drink too much coffee, you might
[118:05] get jittery, but you know, that's still
[118:08] it's not the same being drunk. Alth I I
[118:11] have had enough coffee to actually be
[118:13] not like o too way too overcaffeinated.
[118:17] But anyway, I don't know if Noah didn't
[118:19] just just didn't know.
[118:23] I don't know. But he got drunk
[118:26] and and he did become uncovered,
[118:31] unclothed in his tent.
[118:35] And you know, I don't know, maybe you
[118:37] can tell me whether up to that point any
[118:41] of it was just plain outright
[118:43] transgression,
[118:44] sin. I don't maybe you can tell me if
[118:47] you want you can tell me right now but
[118:50] at any rate he's drunk and he ends up
[118:52] naked but he's in his tent. He's not
[118:54] parading around you know he's not out in
[118:56] the open and the one son Ham apparently
[119:02] sees him
[119:04] and
[119:05] he doesn't I'm just going to say I'm not
[119:08] going to try to get into it in great
[119:10] detail. I'm just going to say that he
[119:12] doesn't act like God.
[119:15] He doesn't seek to cover his father's
[119:18] nakedness. Not only does he not seek to
[119:21] cover it, I mean, he obviously he looks,
[119:24] but then he goes and tells his two
[119:26] brothers. Now I mean opinions abound and
[119:29] you don't have to agree with mine but
[119:32] but it seems that it it was it seems
[119:35] that whatever he did in looking whatever
[119:38] whatever all happened it was wrong. But
[119:40] then he goes and exposes his father's
[119:44] nakedness. Now I mean biblically that's
[119:46] a that means something that I'm not
[119:49] saying. But he tells his brothers
[119:53] it's like it's like he's making light of
[119:55] it. Hey, you know, hey, dad look, you
[119:58] know, dad is blah blah blah blah blah,
[120:00] you know, go take a look. Well, they
[120:02] don't take a look and they they take,
[120:05] one translation says a cloth, another
[120:07] says a garment and they walk backwards
[120:08] and, you know, I think they walked
[120:10] backwards and probably until they were
[120:14] at a certain point they maybe they could
[120:16] see his feet and then and then, you
[120:18] know, they covered him. They never
[120:19] looked at him.
[120:21] And um it's clearly
[120:24] it was clearly very wrong to have just
[120:28] looked upon him like I mean whatever
[120:30] whatever I'll happen.
[120:33] Um
[120:35] so
[120:39] so the thing is um we've learned by this
[120:43] point in the Torah that
[120:46] God seeks to cover the naked.
[120:49] >> Amen.
[120:51] and that we ought to act the same way.
[120:56] We ought to desire to cover the naked
[121:00] and and not make light of their
[121:01] nakedness and not go tell everybody else
[121:04] about someone's nakedness. And I'm not
[121:06] talking about just a lack of clothing.
[121:08] I'm talking about anything
[121:10] anything that would bring shame.
[121:13] Any any could be a transgression.
[121:17] It could be just something you think is
[121:19] funny and ridiculous about somebody. And
[121:22] you know, we all have it in us to want
[121:24] to talk about things. It's it's very
[121:26] easy sometimes even just say things we
[121:28] didn't really even think about or or
[121:30] even intend to relay. It's very easy.
[121:33] The mouth seems to just want to flap.
[121:38] But um and I think we should take this
[121:41] very very very seriously.
[121:44] We we should we we of course don't want
[121:47] to be exposed and put to shame
[121:49] ourselves. Nobody does.
[121:53] But we should really have a consistent
[121:56] conscious desire
[121:58] to never actually bring shame on anyone.
[122:02] >> To never expose
[122:05] anyone's whatever sort of nakedness
[122:09] might me notice. We should we should
[122:11] never want to and and we shouldn't
[122:14] wander into doing it. We should desire
[122:18] that everyone would be clothed just as
[122:21] we desire to be clothed and not not
[122:24] exposed to shame or ridicule or uh you
[122:29] know
[122:31] unhelpful undue criticism.
[122:34] And I think uh the thing is the two
[122:39] brothers
[122:41] whatever they were thinking
[122:45] they they acted like
[122:49] the one in whose image they were made.
[122:53] The other one didn't.
[122:56] And and
[122:58] there's some really murky things in
[122:59] there that are really hard to figure
[123:01] out.
[123:03] But I we we can get tangled up in that
[123:07] later. I'm not gonna I'm not going to
[123:10] try to get into it now. I'm really just
[123:13] paying attention to this.
[123:18] Naked and unashamed, which I think of as
[123:21] clothed before
[123:25] shame came in.
[123:28] And then
[123:30] naked yet clothed which is you know both
[123:33] it's both clothing itself but it's more
[123:36] significantly
[123:38] clothed as
[123:41] the effect of what God does for us
[123:45] in reference
[123:47] to our own sin
[123:50] if we will believe in him and his
[123:54] Messiah. Right?
[123:58] And we should really want
[124:02] everyone to be clothed, not to be
[124:05] exposed.
[124:06] And I I mean I I think personally I I'm
[124:10] aware I've thought a lot about it. I've
[124:11] worked pretty hard at
[124:15] never being really just thrilled to hear
[124:18] that a certain person is dead.
[124:24] you know, either executed
[124:27] or or eliminated. The word is frequently
[124:31] used
[124:33] by um those that were attacked. I mean,
[124:37] in warfare.
[124:39] The thing is, I I don't think I don't
[124:40] think any of us should jump up and down
[124:42] in glee that anyone comes to their end,
[124:44] even even horrible evil terrorists. I'm
[124:48] not saying we shouldn't be glad that
[124:50] their own reign of terror has come to an
[124:52] end.
[124:54] Um
[124:56] but I witnessed discussions among
[124:58] people,
[125:01] civilized people
[125:04] where they are able to begin to speak as
[125:06] though certain persons are no longer
[125:09] human beings.
[125:11] That always that always scares me.
[125:15] We should be very careful never to start
[125:18] classifying any group of people or any
[125:21] person as no longer human because once
[125:25] we begin to make categories and once we
[125:27] begin to say things like that, we start
[125:29] to clear the way not not just for
[125:34] bad results on a basic level, but for
[125:36] actually for for murder, the
[125:39] justification of killing people because
[125:42] they're not worthy of being called
[125:43] human. That's uh history contains some
[125:46] really really ugly examples of that. I
[125:50] don't want my thinking to come anywhere
[125:51] near it.
[125:54] So
[125:57] Messiah has taught us that we should
[126:03] we should love others. We should love
[126:05] our brothers. We should love our
[126:07] sisters.
[126:08] And we should love our enemy.
[126:12] doesn't mean excuse the enemy. Doesn't
[126:14] mean accept everything the enemy does.
[126:18] But um
[126:20] and redemption comes to really truly
[126:22] reprehensible people when when followers
[126:27] of Messiah choose to love them some of
[126:30] the time. Not every time,
[126:34] but it's not us to make that dec. It's
[126:36] not up to us to make that decision.
[126:39] So
[126:40] anyway, um
[126:45] I read a couple of passages.
[126:52] Let me see here.
[126:58] Oh, um yeah, I'll throw this in here.
[127:02] earlier in the week. Um,
[127:06] I don't always read the uh the morning
[127:09] entry in Beggar's Daily Light, but I do
[127:12] often.
[127:14] And I just happen to open it and the
[127:16] first verse
[127:18] on the top of the page
[127:20] was um was this was Daniel 10:12. Then
[127:26] he said to me,"Do not be afraid, Daniel,
[127:29] for from the first day that you set your
[127:31] heart on understanding this and on
[127:34] humbling yourself before your God, your
[127:36] words were heard, and I have come in
[127:39] response to your words." That is really,
[127:43] really, really struck me.
[127:46] and he was heard from the first day, but
[127:50] he had no personal
[127:53] message or awareness that he'd been
[127:56] heard from the first.
[127:59] But he he kept on. He didn't lose his
[128:02] resolve. And and this is um I mean, I
[128:06] look at the world and I think, you know,
[128:08] a lot of things could come about that
[128:09] that we don't like. They they certainly
[128:12] have in in all over the rest of the
[128:14] world. And some of them seem to be on
[128:16] the way here. I don't know where it will
[128:19] all go. But the thing is, Daniel was in
[128:22] a situation where he had no he didn't
[128:25] have power over other people. He didn't
[128:28] have power in the government. He didn't
[128:30] have a vote in elections. Not that there
[128:33] were any.
[128:35] And and he'd been carried off into
[128:37] exile.
[128:40] And so he's supposed to eat a certain
[128:41] kind of food. And and interestingly,
[128:44] I I wasn't even thinking about it in in
[128:47] reference to the Torah portion, but you
[128:50] know, he makes a decision and he decides
[128:53] that he's not going to defile himself.
[128:55] He's not going to eat the king's rich
[128:56] food and he's not going to defile
[128:59] himself with the king's wine.
[129:03] And I thought, oh, connects to the Torah
[129:06] portion with with wine. And I thought,
[129:09] was there something actually wrong with
[129:10] the king's wine?
[129:13] Or was it just that getting drunk was
[129:16] part of the whole thing? I I don't even
[129:18] know. I I don't I don't know if there's
[129:20] commentary on it. But anyway,
[129:23] even though he doesn't have power and
[129:25] he's going to be ordered I mean people
[129:27] have been ordered to feed him a certain
[129:29] thing and give him certain thing to
[129:31] drink. But he but he appeals to the
[129:34] actually it's I mean he's not under a
[129:36] righteous authority but he appeals to it
[129:39] and he was given a trial period.
[129:43] So you know that that takes uh courage
[129:46] but uh you know he began he began to
[129:50] pray
[129:52] and um has anyone ever prayed regarding
[129:56] certain
[129:58] issues in I don't know it could be
[130:01] fairly near to home or it could be in
[130:02] the world but have you ever prayed and
[130:04] then just felt like h tired ah god's not
[130:08] answering
[130:10] um I mean how long does it take 3 days,
[130:13] a week,
[130:14] >> an hour,
[130:15] >> a week and a half, two weeks. Does it
[130:17] take Does it take 3 weeks? Like I mean,
[130:19] do you wait 3 weeks?
[130:22] It was three weeks, wasn't it?
[130:24] >> Yeah.
[130:25] >> Um I mean,
[130:28] he he he didn't he didn't change. He
[130:31] continued
[130:35] to do what he was doing, which was
[130:37] humbling himself
[130:39] before the Lord. and uh and he set his
[130:44] heart on understanding
[130:47] and his words were heard from the
[130:49] beginning but he didn't have indication
[130:53] from it for 3 weeks and I I would dare
[130:57] imagine that in his situation that 3
[130:59] weeks seemed way longer than for us in
[131:03] America with you know pretty much
[131:06] complete freedom still
[131:08] and um and choice as to whether or not
[131:12] we drink anybody's wine or anybody's
[131:15] rich food. And you know, it's it's it's
[131:18] pretty notable. And he's young. I don't
[131:20] know exactly how old he is, but um
[131:27] I I just think we should take an example
[131:29] from his resolve
[131:32] and not, you know, not grow weary.
[131:36] >> But so, um let's see here.
[131:42] Um,
[131:56] in
[131:58] 1 Peter 4,
[132:02] I'll just uh I'll just um
[132:07] start at the seventh verse. The end of
[132:10] all things is near.
[132:13] How near is it?
[132:18] >> Near nearer than it was when it was
[132:20] written.
[132:23] >> Yeah. Nearer than when we first
[132:25] believed. For sure.
[132:28] The end of all things is near.
[132:29] Therefore, be of sound judgment and
[132:32] sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.
[132:37] Above all, keep fervent in your love for
[132:40] one another because love
[132:42] covers a multitude of sins.
[132:48] It's what God does. He covers sins. It's
[132:52] what two of Noah's sons did or well
[132:57] covered his nakedness. I'm not even
[133:00] talking about whether or not he was in
[133:01] sin. Some people think it was flagrant
[133:04] sin. Others seem to think
[133:07] he can't really speak to it. I It
[133:09] doesn't matter.
[133:11] At any rate, he was in a vulnerable
[133:14] state and it was made worse by the fact
[133:17] that he was intoxicated and two of his
[133:19] sons chose to cover it.
[133:22] And and it's that is really what we
[133:25] should want to do whenever we see anyone
[133:29] in any sort of condition that can even
[133:31] vaguely be compared to this. I'm not
[133:33] talking about being not wearing any
[133:36] clothes. Well, it could be,
[133:39] but there are many other things that can
[133:42] be thought of as nakedness.
[133:44] We should we should want to cover a
[133:48] multitude of sins. And if we remain
[133:52] fervent in love for one another and for
[133:56] our fellow man, we we won't have to drum
[134:00] it up. It'll just be there. We will we
[134:02] will want to cover it.
[134:05] We will not want to bring shame. We
[134:07] won't want to expose it. And it says,
[134:10] "Be hospital hospitable to one another
[134:12] without complaint."
[134:15] As each one has received a special gift.
[134:19] And I always feel like saying, "And
[134:21] that's you." And then I feel like
[134:23] saying, "And yes, you have
[134:29] employ it in serving one another as good
[134:32] stewards of the manifold grace of God.
[134:40] Above all, keep fervent in your love for
[134:43] one another because love covers a
[134:46] multitude
[134:48] of sins."
[134:51] Um,
[135:00] in this week's Torah portion,
[135:03] God sets out to
[135:09] begin a process of
[135:12] renewing and restoring creation.
[135:16] and he's never stopped since the days of
[135:18] of Noah.
[135:22] And um
[135:25] as in the portion we read from
[135:29] Matthew
[135:31] says in the end, it will be as in the
[135:34] days of Noah.
[135:37] Um and the his coming will come as the
[135:41] flood did.
[135:43] Um,
[135:47] between now and then,
[135:51] we should
[135:54] we should really want to both be
[135:57] preachers of righteousness
[136:00] after in some fashion,
[136:03] the way Noak was,
[136:06] and to um
[136:09] go around wherever we have the
[136:12] opportunity.
[136:14] and cover people's nakedness and show
[136:16] them the God
[136:20] that comes to cover nakedness
[136:24] that can wash them clean
[136:27] in the blood of Messiah and clothe them
[136:30] in his righteousness
[136:33] and give them a new life because of his
[136:37] conquering death and rising from the
[136:40] dead.
[136:42] So, um,
[136:51] give it give it some thought and my mind
[136:53] keeps coming back to something that
[136:55] David Harwood sent me that he had
[136:57] written about
[137:00] believing the best.
[137:04] When you look at another human being, I
[137:07] think you could practice it when you
[137:08] look in the mirror, too.
[137:11] He could believe the best possible that
[137:14] there is to believe rather than
[137:18] suspecting
[137:20] anything worse or imagining or
[137:22] speculating
[137:24] things.
[137:25] it I think it's I mean it's a very
[137:27] different perspective than comes
[137:29] naturally to choose to believe the best
[137:34] about each person and then and then seek
[137:37] to bring it about rather than to do
[137:39] anything
[137:41] that that might cause that person to
[137:45] stumble even if it's not our intent.
[137:49] I've known people that actually began to
[137:53] transgress in certain ways because it
[137:57] was what was expected of them. And so
[137:59] they thought, well, why why not? Let
[138:01] let's um
[138:03] let's be those that cover
[138:06] sins, that cover up nakedness,
[138:10] and uh
[138:12] encourage each other today and every day
[138:16] and in fervent love
[138:20] and um and not stop praying if we don't
[138:25] hear an answer right away.
[138:28] >> Amen.
[138:29] >> Hey, Maru.
[138:30] >> Amen.
[139:00] And we can remember that some of us here
[139:04] in this room were prayed for for a very
[139:07] very very long time before we came to
[139:10] faith.
[139:12] Right?
[139:13] And some of us were prayed for
[139:16] by a parent or two of our spouse before
[139:21] we were even around and on the screen
[139:25] when they were praying for a believing
[139:27] husband or believing wife for their
[139:30] young child.
[139:32] So um let's not be discouraged if we
[139:35] have to wait a bit. Right.
[139:38] Okay. The Elenu begins at the bottom of
[139:41] page five in the sedor and invite you to
[139:44] stand if you're able and uh join us for
[139:47] that. And we need two people to open the
[139:51] ark.
[139:53] >> Dean, you're back. Pick a partner.
[139:58] >> Yes,
[140:01] John.
[140:05] >> Come open the ark. You don't need a tall
[140:07] eating. No
[140:12] respectful gesture, but not needed.
[140:30] Shalom.
[140:56] Fore
[141:25] for
[141:37] Elohim.
[141:52] We hope, oh Lord our God, to soon behold
[141:54] your majestic glory, when all
[141:57] abominations shall be removed, and all
[142:00] false gods shall be at an end. Then
[142:03] shall the world be perfected under the
[142:05] rule of the Lord Almighty, and all
[142:07] mankind shall call upon your name. For
[142:10] to you every knee must bow and every
[142:13] tongue declare that you are God. Reign
[142:16] over us soon and forever. May the
[142:19] kingdom of David's greater son be
[142:21] established forever. For then shall the
[142:24] words be fulfilled.
[142:33] I don't
[142:46] sh
[143:06] Lord bless you and keep you. Lord make
[143:08] his face shine upon you and be gracious
[143:10] to you. Lord lift up his countenance
[143:13] upon you and give you peace.
[143:24] Adonai.
[143:38] Shalom.
