Sataf: Exploring the Biblical Land of Judah

Will and Benny introduce the Judean Hills, the territory allotted to the tribe of Judah in biblical times as described in the Book of Joshua. The region's diverse geography includes hills containing Jerusalem, the southern city of Hebron, the Shfela lowlands toward Philistine territory, and the desert, making the tribe largely self-sufficient.

The hosts explain the region's fertile agricultural production, including olive trees, fig trees, and grapes that were grown, consumed, and traded in ancient times. Strategic cities were positioned at valley entrances and hilltops to protect trade routes and defend against invasions, particularly from the Philistines and to secure access to Jerusalem.

The area contains numerous biblical sites and historical remains including Hasmonean dynasty ruins, King Herod's water channels, the Saint John in the Wilderness monastery, and routes where Jesus and his disciples traveled to Jerusalem. Today, visitors can hike, picnic, and explore both the natural beauty and rich historical heritage of the Judean Hills.
