Transcript [00:00] Rabbi Yitzhak Neria, shalom. Shalom, [00:02] Yoni. How are you? Thank you very much [00:03] for joining us, for coming to our studio [00:05] here in Jerusalem. You're the Rosh [00:06] Yeshiva of Torah Betzion and head of the [00:09] Ehad Le'Ehad Foundation. First of all, a [00:11] few words about the foundation, what [00:12] you're doing throughout the years, [00:14] really helping [00:15] Torah learners who hopefully, and as you [00:18] see them, who are next generation of [00:20] rabbis. [00:21] >> Yeah, it's true. We have a support for [00:24] outstanding Avrechim. We do believe that [00:26] as a society, it's our responsibility to [00:29] support them, to enable them to grow. [00:32] And nobody can grow if you don't support [00:34] him in any field, in the army, in the [00:38] universities, [00:39] everywhere. And we decided we have to [00:41] focus on our next generation Gedolim. [00:44] And you know, it's been 10 years that [00:46] we're doing it, it's unbelievable. Few [00:48] Roshei Yeshivot already became from our [00:51] system, and we see the future very, very [00:54] bright. [00:55] >> And it's it's collective, it's [00:56] collective responsibility. [00:57] >> responsibility that all of us [00:59] responsible have responsibility because [01:03] you can't stay away and say, "Okay, [01:06] somebody will do it." It's our [01:07] responsibility if you do believe in the [01:09] approach of Torah and Medinat Yisrael [01:12] and serving in the army and being part [01:14] of the society and understanding where [01:15] you are. So, when we choose the best [01:17] Avrechim, those Avrechim have the best [01:19] abilities to go to to universities, they [01:22] did matrix, they know math, they know [01:24] English, they know computers, and they [01:26] decided to dedicate their life for [01:28] Torah. Not just really for us. [01:31] >> Now, as you mentioned, dedicate their [01:32] life for Torah, it is important also [01:34] mention that they all served in the [01:37] army, will be serving in the army. [01:39] >> Exactly. We have a way. [01:43] We don't change our philosophy. Always [01:46] we involved with what's going on in the [01:47] country. We are involved in the army, [01:51] and they serve some of them as officers. [01:53] They did hundreds of days of Miluim in [01:55] the past 3 years. But yet, when they [01:59] have a moment, when they go back to the [02:00] Yeshiva, you won't see the difference. [02:02] He can be a Mefaked Pluga, MP, he can be [02:05] another commander. When he goes back to [02:07] the Yeshiva, he's an Avrech. [02:08] >> Also important to emphasize for those [02:10] who aren't familiar with the the ideals [02:12] and the agenda, for them, for you, for [02:14] us, [02:15] that's Torah. [02:16] >> That's Torah. Exactly. This is what I [02:18] mentioned by saying, this is our way. [02:20] This is Torah. Torat Chaim. Torah that [02:23] sees life. And what's happening in Eretz [02:25] Yisrael today as part of the redemption, [02:27] part of the Geulah, and understanding [02:29] this is our responsibility to take [02:33] what we can do to be part of Klal [02:34] Yisrael. [02:35] >> Now, during these days of uh Rosh [02:38] Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, the [02:39] holidays, you're helping many, many [02:42] Avreichim in a special way. [02:44] >> Throughout the year, we support [02:45] outstanding Avreichim. But towards the [02:47] Chagim, we focus on the many Avreichim [02:50] as we can that needs help because they [02:54] don't make money. They don't get [02:56] salaries. And they're based on a very [02:58] low stipend. When Chagim arrive, they [03:00] need this support. And I think, [03:03] you know, sometimes you think, what kind [03:05] of tzedakah I can do before Chagim to be [03:07] part of something? [03:09] This is the best tzedakah you can do in [03:10] many ways. First, we work with almost [03:13] all the Yeshivot. Second, they're so [03:16] honest because they report exactly how [03:18] much money they make, how much money his [03:19] wife make, what's the cost of the rent. [03:22] >> that sometimes they call you with a [03:24] minor, minor [03:25] >> [laughter] [03:25] >> income just to make sure that it's [03:26] totally kosher. [03:27] >> Their grandfather from America sent a [03:29] $100, and and should they report about [03:32] it, etc., etc. Oh, the Miluim sent me [03:34] some money. Yes, they're very honest. [03:37] But I think, when we come for the [03:39] Chagim, when we go and sit in our table [03:41] with our family and celebrate, we want [03:43] to know we helped others. And those [03:45] people will not go and wait in line to [03:49] get some, I don't know, something that [03:51] people give. And we do it in a very, [03:53] very respectable way. We [03:56] >> But you have much emphasis on how to [03:59] give. [03:59] >> Exactly. First, we ask exactly the [04:01] income what they have. We see it as [04:03] dayanim, three people to check each [04:05] case, and it's hundreds of cases. We [04:08] don't give to anybody. When we decide to [04:11] give, the money is go directly to their [04:14] bank account. We trust them. You know, [04:16] it's not a family that have problems [04:18] that it's the such thing that you have [04:20] to make sure they don't spend the money [04:22] on alcohol or cigarettes. So, you give [04:25] them food. Those are good, good [04:27] families. And we have the school to [04:29] support them in these three, four, five [04:32] years when they do need help before they [04:34] go and work. And some of them will be [04:36] rabbis, some of them will be teachers, [04:37] some of them will be lawyers. And you [04:39] know what? Some of them, years after, [04:42] send donation to us because they [04:43] remember, when I was a [04:45] you helped me. [04:46] >> Now, tell us about the responses, [04:48] really. [04:48] >> It's very, very interesting because some [04:51] of them say, "I'm not willing to take [04:53] support from anybody, just from you." [04:55] Second, you know, I write them every hug [04:58] a letter. And once I was hosted for a [05:01] simcha in a house of a [05:03] and I saw my letter on their freezer [05:06] because the father and the mother put it [05:08] for the kids. [05:09] It shows me that really the most [05:12] important is not the money. It is [05:14] important, but the support and the [05:16] appreciation. We appreciate Torah, we [05:18] want to be part of your Torah. [05:20] >> And we mentioned at the beginning how [05:21] much it's part of a collective [05:22] responsibility. And really, you're [05:24] calling everyone from Israel, from [05:26] around the world to be part of this. [05:28] >> Yes, be part of it. It's a big you know, [05:31] everybody is looking for for Rosh [05:32] Hashanah. When we blow the shofar, why [05:35] we do it from the bima? [05:37] We can do it everywhere. The answer is, [05:40] the [05:40] says because we want to mention the of [05:43] Torah. [05:44] Everybody wants to come to Yom Hadin [05:46] with Zchuyot. Here you have Zchut of [05:48] Torah, but not just Torah. Torah is [05:50] related to Klal Yisrael. Torah is to [05:52] take responsibility of Yisrael. Torah is [05:55] to really part of the life of what's [05:57] happening now in Eretz Yisrael. [06:00] Don't you want to be part of it? [06:02] >> Cuz they're taking responsibility for [06:05] our Torah as well. [06:06] >> Exactly. [06:06] >> They're helping us with their Torah, we [06:08] should help them as well. [06:09] >> Exactly. [06:10] >> Rabbi Yitzchak Neria, thank you very [06:12] much for joining us and Shana Tova. [06:14] >> Shana Tova U'Metuka.
