Chapters & Summary

A Fly Dubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv carrying 174 passengers experiences a catastrophic crisis when the co-pilot stabs Captain Smith Muthart in the cockpit, causing the aircraft to drop over 17,000 feet in less than 2 minutes. Despite his severe injuries, Captain Muthart makes the critical decision to open the cockpit door, enabling passengers and crew to overpower the attacker and prevent a disaster.

Smith Muthart grew up in Mumbai in a textile business family but discovered his passion for aviation at age 19 after attending an aviation seminar. He trained at Mainland Air in New Zealand beginning in 2008, joined SpiceJet in 2011 where he rose to senior commander, and by 2022 had logged nearly 10,000 hours on Boeing 737 aircraft, accumulating extensive experience as pilot in command.

On September 30, Fly Dubai flight FZ 1073 experiences the co-pilot's violent attack on Captain Muthart, causing a severe emergency descent. Beyond the captain's courage, passengers and crew restrain the attacker, a doctor treats the wounded captain, and two qualified pilots traveling as passengers take over controls and land the aircraft safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, demonstrating collective heroism.
