Transcript [00:00] Europe spent this weekend sending Israel a message that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. [00:08] On October 7th itself, masked demonstrators stood in Amsterdam's damn square carrying a banner that [00:16] said, "We support Hamas." They chanted, "Long live the 7th of October." They blamed an Israeli flag. [00:26] Then part of the group tried to march towards an area containing some of Amsterdam's most [00:31] important Jewish institutions. The Jewish Museum, the Portuguese synagogue, and the Holocaust names, [00:39] monuments, police stopped them. Amsterdam's mayor, he called what happened shocking and [00:47] distasteful. But under the current Dutch law, the Hamas slogans themselves, they were not [00:53] enough to shut the demonstration down. And that happened in the Netherlands, a country that for [01:00] decades was considered one of Israel's closest friends in Europe. The same Netherlands has now [01:07] taken another step. Since September 22nd, Dutch authorities have banned the import, purchase, [01:15] and the sale of goods originating from Israeli communities that the Netherlands defines as [01:21] illegal settlements in Judean, Samaria, in East Jerusalem, and in the golden Heights. The [01:27] restrictions, they reach all the way to personal luggage. Israeli travelers arriving at Shikpool [01:35] have reported additional checks over products that they carried from Israel. Think about the picture [01:42] for just a moment. A country that once stood firmly besides Israel is examining whether an [01:48] Israeli bottle of wine, jar of honey, or locally made product is permitted to enter its territory. [01:58] And at the same time on the streets of its capital, demonstrators, they can stand beneath a [02:05] banner openly supporting Hamas on the anniversary of the massacre that kamas committed. That does [02:12] not mean that every European who criticizes Israel is anti-semitic. But pretending that nothing [02:19] larger is happening would also be dishonest. This weekend, tens of thousands marched in London, [02:26] Berlin, Rome, and other European cities demanding further actions against Islam. In London, [02:32] protesters called for the release of convicted terrorist Marwan Barhuti. One demonstrator was [02:39] photographed carrying an image of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatah Ali Kami. In Britain, [02:45] the Green Party has now adopted a motion declaring that Zionism is racism. While even voices inside [02:53] the party are warning that extremists and racists cannot be allowed to capture it. For years, [03:00] critics have warned about a strange political convergence developing in Europe. Parts of the [03:06] radical left joining forces with the Islamist movements around one subject on which they [03:12] can agree completely which is Israel. They may disagree on almost everything else. religion, [03:19] women's rights, LGBT rights, secularism, western society itself, and others. But put an Israeli [03:27] flag in front of them and suddenly they are standing in the same demonstration together. [03:33] And for Jews watching from Europe, the boundary between attacking an Israeli government and [03:38] attacking Jewish national existence is becoming frighteningly thin. Now, here is where this story [03:47] becomes relevant for us at home in Israel. Because while European politics debate whether products [03:54] from Judea and Samaria should even be allowed through customs, we are driving in those same [04:00] hills to meet two Israeli reserveists. Reserveists of the IDF. Two men who run a small coffee [04:07] business. two men who can be working one morning and called back into action into uniform the next. [04:15] They are not discussing Israel from a protest in Amsterdam. They are living here. They're raising [04:22] families here. They're trying to keep a business alive here. And when Israel is threatened, they're [04:30] amongst the people who leave that business behind and go defend it. So, what does Hamas banner in [04:37] Amsterdam, a boycott in Shikpur airport, and a wave of anti-Israel demonstrations across Europe [04:45] have to do with two reservists making coffee in the Judeian Hills, a lot more than you may think. [04:58] So we are leaving Jerusalem and driving south through the Judeian hills towards Gusetion. [05:05] This road has its own history with terrorism. It also runs through communities that are [05:12] filled with families who work, raise children, build businesses, serve in the IDF's reserves, [05:19] and then return to do all of those things once more. So our first stop is not a military base. [05:27] It's actually a coffee shop and we're meeting with Ysef and Noram Kaplan, Golani veterans of the [05:34] IDF's infantry unit and also reserveists behind the Golani coffee project here. So their coffee, [05:42] it was created in memory of their friend, Sergeant Major Omar Galedo. Omar was the man who would make [05:52] coffee for the guys in the base after he fell. That simple ritual became a way for his friends [05:59] to carry him forward. But today, I also want to understand the business behind the memory. [06:06] Because if you own a small business here in Israel and the army calls you back into reserve duty, [06:13] there's no giant corporation waiting behind you. There may be an order that needs to be packed, [06:20] coffee that needs to be produced, customers waiting, bills arriving, and a family depending on [06:26] this income. And the person who normally handles all of that may suddenly be somewhere else serving [06:33] this country. As we're waiting for the coffee to brew, maybe you can share the how how you came [06:40] up with the idea of a Golani coffee. FF and I came up with Rani coffee while we were still in Lebanon [06:49] in a suicide drone attack on our uh company. Four soldiers were really badly hurt. One was killed. [07:01] I was very lucky I was there with them. Um all the shrapnel sort of uh flew in every direction [07:10] except where I was standing. I was thrown back by the blast and um we're left with the very [07:16] sad loss of our good friend Omar Omar Gald um which was a brave soldier and a father of two [07:27] and an architect and a very talented individual in many many ways. Joseph and I discussed this [07:35] idea of creating a coffee in his memory sort of it's a recipe that we drank and we enjoyed [07:41] um in the years before he start to put something healthy in the coffee and start to to give [07:48] everybody to drink this coffee and a lot of people say look what you give me a soap I want a coffee [07:55] but soap but it was tasty and it became something that we are drinking drinking together after [08:03] It's became um something bigger than us. It mean we started and it's it's moves with his own [08:11] uh his own energy. A lot of people want to buy it. H it's came it's arrived to a lot of member of [08:18] leavam and we sell a lot in the shop of leam for a board. It mean something unbelievable that people [08:26] around the world around the world the Golani coffee buying the Golani coffee and having the [08:33] Omar story in their table. H it's something huge for us. I have to stop you for a second because [08:40] I I want to to try it. Maybe we continue while drinking this. I know. Sorry you cannot taste [08:48] this on our YouTube channel. But what you can do for now is make sure to hit the subscribe button [08:53] on TV and Israel so you never miss another update. When you come to Israel to meet us personally, [08:59] you can try and see the coffee with us. But until then, make sure to order leam. Go to levolam.com [09:08] and then enter the coupon code boots to get 40% off of your subscription. Okay? You can also [09:15] follow the link you see on the screen will take you immediately where you need to go. Okay. Now [09:23] so this is our filter coffee and we have also black coffee that we make. Okay. That's the [09:28] two. They're complimentary. This is like a softer, smoother kind of taste. I've been perfecting this [09:34] recipe for many years. Turmeric and um moringa or matcha. Uh but we use the green substance. [09:44] Um there's something special about them in many ways. So uh they create the color of the Golani [09:51] brigade green and uh yellow. So that's sort of where the coffee gets its name from. Golani [09:57] coffee. We wanted to make something that is both in memory of improves your health, tastes good [10:05] and is in the Golani brigade colors that we are so proud of being a part of. Oh, good combination. So [10:12] both of you are serving in Golani, which is an IDF infantry unit that spent a lot of time fighting in [10:20] South Lebanon. How is it to spend hundreds of days in uniform while managing a business far away from [10:31] your post in the IDF? I mean, how can you maneuver these two lives while also having a family and [10:38] your day-to-day jobs and everything that you're doing? For me, I can say that the coffee creating [10:44] it and drinking it and seeing other people enjoy it serves as uh I didn't realize it in [10:50] the beginning, but there's also something sort of rehabilitating about it, regenerating um [10:56] regenerative and we enjoy it very much and sort of everything from mixing the coffee and packing it [11:05] um to sort of bringing the memory of our good friend that I personally I miss him every day. [11:14] Um that's something that gives us strength and the the motivation a lot of time once we was down the [11:22] motivation was from from the other side it mean people that asking for the coffee from Levola I [11:29] mean people in Israel that we don't know how they how they reach us how they know about the coffee [11:35] and it's happened without we are not we don't know how to to make to make advertising nothing [11:41] we you know how to make coffee we know how to make That's it guys. This is just another story of what [11:49] Israel, the people of Israel is all about. Like we are going to fight because we need to defend [11:54] ourselves, not because we want to. But then while we're doing that, we're already planning for the [11:59] future. If it's like bringing more children to the world or creating coffee that will be a memory of [12:07] those that were lost in this fight and also be a blessing to the nations around the world. So, [12:14] thank you so much for everything that you're doing and check out Golani Coffee, okay? You can order [12:22] it as part of Leva. You can go to levolam.com and use the coupon code or go to the link that [12:29] you see below. It will take you directly to where you need to go. Hey, thank you so much. Thanks for [12:33] having us. Thank you very much. There is something important in that distinction. Nobody should buy [12:41] bad coffee because the people who made it served in the owi. A small Israeli business has to make [12:49] something worth buying. It has to compete, has to survive because people genuinely want its product. [12:58] The problem is that an Israeli reserveist owned business is trying to do that while carrying the [13:05] burden that most businesses around the world or in the west never have to calculate. What happens [13:10] if the owners they disappear into military service for months or months or hundreds of days per year. [13:20] That is where the next part of our journey becomes interesting. Golani coffee has been included in [13:27] the Lev Ham boxes. And rather than simply telling you that buying Israeli products is supporting [13:34] Israel, we're going to follow the product and see what that sentence actually means. We're [13:41] now heading towards the Levalam warehouse in Judea and Samaria in Aaniel, an Israeli community here. [13:48] Lev works with small producers and then family businesses all across Israel. The basic model is [13:56] straightforward. Products are ordered from Israeli markets, brought here, packed into monthly boxes, [14:04] and then shipped to supporters overseas. The box usually contains six to eight Israeli made [14:11] products. But I do not want the brochure version. I want to know what happens between the person [14:20] making something in a small workshop and the person opening the box thousands of miles away. [14:27] That's the interesting story here. Hi. Hey. So great to be here. I'm so happy to see you. [14:34] Welcome. Welcome. Thank you for having me. I love your boxes. So now I came to show our audience. [14:40] I mean how it all comes together. What's the story behind Leva Love? I love it. Thank you [14:45] for coming. I really appreciate it. So come on in. We are here in Judea and Samaria. Yeah. And [14:52] this is where everything is happening, right? And this is where the assembly of the factory, [14:58] all the products are coming together. You have the manufacturers bringing their produce here and then [15:04] you assemble it here, ship it from here. Exactly. All over the world. Exactly. So everything is [15:10] right here in Israel. Our producers, as you know, are from all over. from Raat Golan, Shamron, [15:16] Yudier down to Otaza and everything in between. So yeah, we work with all of these incredible people, [15:24] but this is sort of like the the center of the wheel. This is where all the action happens, [15:28] where it all gets put together and shipped out every day. The products that you have [15:33] here Mhm. where are they coming from? Okay, so they come from literally all over Israel [15:39] from Ramata Golan down to Yeah. Yeah. We have we work with Decorina Chocolate up in Anziban. Yeah, [15:47] just they had their chocolate this weekend. I was up with a family camping there. Yeah, [15:51] it's so good. I mean, they're closer to Syria than they are to us. That's true. That's true. [15:55] They're very far north. So, we work also with uh businesses across the northern border across to [15:59] Russian Nikra. We work all the way through Shaman. Rashan Nikkra is the area very close to Lebanon. [16:07] So an area that was heavily affected by the terrorist organization throughout this war [16:11] and even currently now the IDF is operating there to make sure that they will not be able to launch [16:16] missiles or infiltrate Israel. Exactly. So we have businesses on that border that depend on tourism [16:24] that depend on like internal Israeli tourism going to them people from outside and you can imagine [16:30] like not only it's it's not like it's difficult to go there as you said it's closed it's a military [16:36] zone you cannot go in at all on top of that the people that run that business guess where they are [16:43] in reserve straight in south Lebanon or the Gaza strip right exactly it's a complete catastrophe [16:49] for their business. So, we very specifically with intention worked with those businesses [16:55] and worked with them in a way that they had time to produce their products, get them together and [17:00] then get them to us so that we could send them to our members. So, for many of those businesses, [17:06] this has been what kept the business alive over the past 3 years. It hasn't even just been a case [17:11] of like being a bump that helped them to grow, which is what we want to be. We want to be just [17:16] like a little bit of a growth engine. Instead, this was pure survival. This was like, I'm in [17:21] the army, as you said. I'm defending my country. I left my family behind. Some of them had children [17:26] being born. They didn't see their children being born. Their business is hanging on by a thread. [17:31] What are these people to do? I mean, really, what are they to do? No. And I think that this is one [17:37] reason why standing with Lev is so important. It's not just you're getting a piece of Israel. I mean, [17:45] if you can't come here personally, it's also standing with the working men and women of this [17:50] country. It's providing jobs for Israelis that need it now because of all the war, because of 3 [17:58] years of hardships, and you get an amazing piece of this land to your house. So, if you guys want [18:05] to help Israel in a meaningful way, help the small businesses of this country, go to levolam.com and [18:12] then you can insert the coupon code boots, okay? And you'll get 40% off of your subscription and [18:19] you'll be part of what's happening here in this lab. Okay? So, level.com and then [18:24] insert the coupon code boots. You can also go to the website which is the tl.levalam.com/tbn. [18:32] Yeah. Okay, let's continue. Yeah. So, these cool guys that you see over here, they're from [18:36] an organization called Mishv, which is a not for-p profofit here in uh Israel, and they're [18:42] working with people that wouldn't find meaningful employment otherwise. They have different needs, [18:47] different specialties. So, I always say these are the guys that sort of bring the magic to putting [18:51] everything together cuz they really enjoy this part of what they're doing for the package. So, [18:56] so what do we have here? Like, what is this? So, for example, these are majel dates. They [19:02] come from the Jordan Valley. So, we receive them like this. Okay. And then these guys are the ones [19:08] that do kind of that little finishing touch. Seems like a small thing, but it makes a big difference, [19:13] right, when you get the box. So, um, these come from Nuts of the Valley. They're in the hot hot [19:19] Jordan Valley. They're growing their own dates. It's a family-owned farm, second generation. Now, [19:24] you know, in the Bible it says the land of milk and honey. Yeah. It's not bee honey, [19:30] date honey. Put me to work on the assembly line. What's What's the next step? Here's the thing. [19:34] Everything begins with just this box like this. So, the guys then set the box up. Uhhuh. And then [19:41] it gets flipped over, right? Doesn't get sealed. And everything is placed in in a very specific [19:47] order. And it Do you want to show us exactly how you're placing everything in? Oh my goodness. So, [19:53] normally there's a whole group of people along here. Each one each one does one one thing. [19:56] Exactly. little she really and you'll see as it as it goes in it has to go in a very specific [20:05] way. It's not just like throwing the product into the box because these guys are thinking about like [20:10] who's going to get the box and they want it to be beautiful every single time. So this guy I [20:16] have to tell you like the whole whole of Levolam the people of Levolam are really special but Ura [20:20] I especially love because he's a young guy. He's here he's committed. He's a Zionist and he looks [20:26] after all the people here and he takes such good care of them. He does birthday parties, [20:30] he does cake, he does celebrations and even his wife is working sometimes with us doing projects. [20:37] Like you come to this stack of boxes and each one of these boxes is somebody who loves Israel. Each [20:44] one of these boxes is somebody who like not only cares about Israel but they said to themselves [20:50] like what can I do? like what could I do that will help real people in Israel, people like yourself, [20:55] people like myself. I wouldn't have this job if it wasn't for these people. And so I come and I look [21:01] at that and honestly it fills me with um like so much uh deep feeling of uh being cared for, [21:11] you know, of knowing that we are not alone. Yes. Exactly. And then you also see the supernatural [21:16] love absolutely from Bible believing Christians that are standing with us and it it doesn't make [21:22] sense also. No, but just because God is in control the situation. So absolutely. So this [21:28] is amazing to see that all these people have ordered leam from far far away outside of the [21:36] Exactly. Cuz they want to be connected. Exactly. Yeah. And they are connected. Before we continue, [21:43] help us keep bringing you stories from Israel that go beyond the headlines. If you want [21:49] to understand not only where the missiles are flying, but what this war does to the soldiers, [21:55] the families, the businesses, the farmers, and the communities living underneath those missiles. Give it a try for yourself. Now, I want to end where we began. A tanker [22:51] is attacked in the Gulf. American commanders, they prepare options for strikes in Iran. The [22:58] Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas remains a security problem for Israel in Gaza. Bala, [23:06] another terrorist organization remains on Israel's northern frontier. And somewhere in the middle of [23:12] all of that, an Israeli business owner looks at his phone and sees another reserve call up [23:20] and order to leave everything and go defend this country. This is the strange reality of [23:27] this country. The people defending Israel are often the same people expected to return home [23:33] and keep its economy moving forward. So you can destroy a missile launcher with an air [23:39] strike. But rebuilding a family, a family small business that slow can threaten the Gulf and [23:48] Kamas can keep trying to preserve its power. But Israel's ability to stay in this fight will also [23:54] be measured by whether the people who leave their businesses for reserve duty in the IDF still have [24:01] a business to come home to. And if the next call up comes tomorrow morning, will the rest of us [24:08] make sure that the families holding this country together are still standing when they go back [24:13] home?
