Today is [02:47] August the 4th. Let's get started. A few [02:51] hours ago, Iranian media reported heavy [02:54] explosions in Kuwait and a fire that [02:56] broke out in the center of the country. [02:59] The Tasim news agency reported that an [03:02] American base had been hit. President [03:04] Donald Trump is escalating his threats [03:07] against Iran, claiming that the [03:09] confrontation with Tehran is going very [03:12] well. And according to him, Iran is now [03:15] receiving one final chance to sign an [03:17] agreement before the United States acts [03:20] against it against it with full force. [03:22] And according to President Trump, the [03:25] United States was supposed to strike [03:26] Iran as early as last night. But the [03:30] strike was stopped after the Iranians [03:32] contacted him and asked him not to carry [03:34] it out. Speaking to [04:28] reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump [04:30] said there's a deal with Iran on the [04:33] straight of Humuz and there will be a [04:35] deal on the dismantling of the nuclear [04:37] weapons. He added the negotiations were [04:39] expected to begin today. Now look, under [04:43] Trump's threats and the preparation for [04:45] a broad military strike, much changed [04:48] direction and ordered approval of the [04:50] temporary ceasefire. Behind the scenes, [04:54] dramatic negotiations took place, but [04:56] the risk of renewed fighting remains [04:58] very high. Trump revealed that the [05:01] United States had come very close to a [05:03] severe military operation against Iran. [05:06] In his words, "We were about to hit them [05:09] very hard, harder than any strike since [05:12] World War II." Several leaders begged us [05:15] not to hit them, especially the [05:17] Iranians, who said they wanted to talk. [05:19] He added, "This is Iran's last chance to [05:22] make a deal. [06:32] The Iranians believe they have the upper [06:34] hand and they are waiting to see when [06:36] Trump will lose patience. The [06:39] disagreements inside the regime's [06:40] leadership appear less and less [06:42] relevant. Muchaba and the leadership in [06:45] Tehran believe from their perspective at [06:47] least that the Americans cannot be [06:50] trusted. And in Tehran, they believe [06:53] they must be tough with Washington, [06:56] stand firm, and show no weakness. They [06:59] believe Trump will not make a decisive, [07:01] game-changing move before November. And [07:04] from that point, their goal is clear. Washington [08:27] is especially concerned about a scenario [08:30] involving an Iranian saturation attack [08:32] using missiles and unmanned aerial [08:34] vehicles which could cause heavy losses [08:37] and push both sides into a broad [08:40] conflict. One that would eliminate the [08:42] possibility of continued diplomatic [08:43] talks. According to the report, the [08:46] intelligence assessments behind the plan [08:49] determined that the traditional [08:50] deployment of forces at forward bases [08:53] has become a major vulnerability. The [08:56] geographic proximity to Iran reportedly [08:59] shortens the warning time for Patri and [09:01] THAAD systems to less than 2 minutes in [09:04] the event of a missile launch or a [09:06] suicide drone attack. For this reason, [09:09] the decision was made to empty some of [09:11] the runways and turn the nearby bases [09:14] mainly into ground defense lines [09:16] designed to absorb the first blow while [09:19] the main offensive capability is moved [09:21] to more distant and better protected [09:23] bases. [17:02] The Gulf States did not necessarily give [17:04] Trump identical advice. Saudi Arabia and [17:07] Qatar fear that a major strike could [17:10] bring missiles, drones, sabotage, and [17:13] cyber attacks against oil facilities, [17:15] ports, bases, and disalenation plants. [17:19] The United Arab Emirates has supported a [17:21] harder posture toward the revolutionary [17:23] guards while still having an interest in [17:25] preventing an uncontrolled regional war. [17:29] Trump is trying to hold those positions [17:31] together, preserve the threat of [17:33] overwhelming force, but leave enough [17:35] space for Gulf diplomacy to work. The [18:22] disagreement over words hides a more [18:24] important disagreement over control. Iran wants a system that pre [18:35] preserves its authority over routes, [18:38] inspections, and access. Iranian [18:41] officials say an understanding about a [18:43] new route would not automatically mean [18:45] the straight is fully open or fully [18:47] closed. A maritime agreement would still [18:50] be easier than a nuclear agreement. [18:53] Shipping can be regulated through [18:54] coordinates, inspection rules, [18:56] communication channels, and enforcement [18:59] procedures. A nuclear deal must account [19:02] for enriched uranium, centrifuges, [19:05] underground sites, inspectors, missile [19:08] capabilities, and the consequences of a [19:10] violation. [19:12] Trump is presenting these files as a [19:14] sequence. Iran may try to use progress [19:16] on hum to gain economic relief before [19:19] making irreversible nuclear concessions. [19:23] The president's repeated threats and [19:25] pauses have created another battle over [19:28] credibility. Iranian officials appear to [19:31] believe that Trump wants leverage, not a [19:33] long regional war, and that time will [19:36] increase American pressure for a [19:37] settlement. Trump's answer is that the [19:40] strike option remains ready and that his [19:43] willingness to negotiate should not be [19:45] mistaken for weakness. A senior Iranian [20:21] figure claimed that Thran had prepared [20:23] attacks against three locations in [20:25] Ukraine, then cancelled them after [20:28] Ukraine apologized for a strike on an [20:30] Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea. That [20:33] claim has not been independently [20:35] verified, but Iran clearly wants [20:37] countries supporting American pressure [20:39] to believe they can also become targets. [20:42] In Washington, the conflict is moving [20:45] into the debate over international [20:46] institutions. [20:48] Senator Ted Cruz accused the United [20:51] Nations of obstructing American scrutiny [20:53] of possible links between aid [20:55] organizations in Gaza and Hamas. He [20:58] argued that American taxpayers should [21:00] not finance salaries connected to [21:03] terrorists and called for tighter [21:05] accountability and funding restrictions. [21:08] That dispute connects directly to the [21:10] next stage in Gaza. The Board of Peace [21:13] says a complete Israeli withdrawal [21:15] beyond the yellow line will happen only [21:17] after Hamas is disarmed. The [21:50] expectation is that these preparations [21:53] could take about 14 days after which [21:55] political pressure on Israel may [21:57] intensify. [21:59] The test is not whether weapons are [22:00] cataloged or moved into storage. It's [22:03] where the rockets, machine guns, [22:05] explosives, and tunnel infrastructure [22:08] are permanently removed from military [22:10] use.
