Discover the meaning of atonement in this week’s Torah reading from Leviticus 16–18.
Learn how Yom Kippur points to Yeshua and what it means to truly enter God’s presence today.
This week’s Weekly Torah Reading takes us into one of the most powerful and sobering passages in Scripture—Leviticus 16:1–18:30.
After the death of Aaron’s sons, God establishes a clear way for His people to approach Him. Only once a year, on the Day of Atonement, the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies. This reminds us that God’s presence is not something we approach casually. His holiness calls for reverence, humility, and preparation.
At the center of this portion is Yom Kippur—the Day of Atonement. Two goats are chosen: one is sacrificed, and the other is sent away, carrying the sins of the people. This powerful picture points us directly to Yeshua, who became both the sacrifice for our sin and the One who removes it completely.
But this portion does not end with atonement. It continues with a call to holiness in everyday life. God calls His people to live differently—not just in worship, but in how they walk daily. Holiness is not only about entering God’s presence; it is about reflecting His character in every area of life.
Through Yeshua, the way into God’s presence is now open. What was once limited to one day a year has become an invitation for every day.
