We can disagree on politics and still stand together for Israel. ⠀ Shai Davidai and I talked about the divisions within our community, and the things that should keep us working together. Agreement on every issue can’t be the price of showing up for one another. ⠀ Where do you think we need more of that cooperation? ⠀ We donate 18% of our profits to organizations supporting Israeli soldiers, veterans, and first responders. ⠀ Am Yisrael Chai. ⠀ #irondomecoffee #standwithisrael #jewishcommunity

📚 MACA READS | Shai Davidai’s American Intellectual Antisemitism From Columbia to UNT, and everywhere in between, no college campus - whether Ivy League or public, private or state, liberal or conservative - has been immune to the wave of anti-Israel, anti-Jewish, and anti-American rhetoric that has swept through campuses. Three years after October 7, we’re still confronting the consequences of what happens when a hateful, violent ideology goes unchecked. In American Intellectual Antisemitism: The Anti-Jewish Movement Tearing Through Our Universities, author Shai Davidai examines how campus rhetoric can inspire real-world attacks - and how the ideas, narratives, and movements taking hold in our universities can have consequences far beyond campus grounds. Where does rhetoric end and real-world danger begin? Who is responsible for recognizing the warning signs? And what can we do to protect the next generation? Join MACA Reads for a virtual book discussion with Shai Davidai himself on Thursday, October 22, at 6 PM CST! 📖 Get your copy. 💻 Sign up at bit.ly/macareads. 🎤 Come ready to listen, engage, and ask questions. Blaming Jews (or Israel) for your problems won’t solve them. But it will make you an antisemite. Read American Intellectual Antisemitism. Join the fight against Jew-hatred.

One part of my conversation with Yardenne Greenspan has stayed with me. We talked about the strange privilege of being able to grieve from a distance, while people in Israel still have to carry on with their everyday lives. Taking their children to school, going to work, finding shelter when the sirens sound, and somehow continuing through it all. Yardenne spoke about feeling guilty for her own sadness, watching from afar while Israelis had little choice but to keep moving forward. As someone who also lives outside Israel, so much of what she said resonated with me. A powerful moment from our conversation. Listen to Yardenne's full episode of What Came After, Season 6, Episode 4, wherever you get your podcasts.

Some conversations stay with you. These are worth showing up for. From Simon Deng’s extraordinary journey out of slavery to Eitan Chitayat’s unapologetic Jewish pride. From exposing Soviet propaganda to raising confident Jewish kids—and confronting campus Jew hatred with Shai Davidai. Five events. Powerful voices. A community that keeps showing up. @shaidavidai joined @libbyznaimer to discuss the riots that took place in France over the weekend that also featured anti-Israel protestors.

Read the full article on sjhyde.substack.com by @shaidavidai In the aftermath of October 7, Columbia University professor Shai Davidai watched as students celebrated Hamas, faculty members justified the massacre, and university administrators failed to confront the growing hostility toward Jews and Israelis on campus. But what disturbed him most was a deeper question: How had some of America’s most prestigious universities become places where the murder of Jews could be rationalized in the language of justice and liberation? In his new book, American Intellectual Antisemitism: The Anti-Jewish Movement Tearing Through Our Universities, Davidai argues that the answer lies in decades of intellectual and ideological developments within American academia. Tracing the ideas, institutions, professors, and activist networks that helped transform Jews from a historically persecuted minority into supposed symbols of privilege and oppression, Davidai examines how antisemitism acquired a new vocabulary and spread from university classrooms into mainstream American culture and politics.

We can’t even agree on Israel’s biggest problem. Shai Davidai told me about an exercise where everyone had to pick one of four problems and stand in a different corner of the room. Everyone chose based on their politics, their identity, their priorities. Pretty quickly, the room was divided. His point: how are we supposed to solve any of these problems if everyone stays in their own corner? We’re going to disagree. A lot. But I’d rather argue with someone who cares about Israel’s future than give up on each other entirely. There’s too much at stake for that. To portray Jews as colonizers, you first have to erase thousands of years of Jewish history. That’s exactly what American Intellectual Antisemitism does. It turns Jewish indigeneity into colonialism and Jewish self-determination into oppression.

Shai Davidai is right. If the antisemites win, it won’t matter whether you supported Israel from the left or the right. ⠀ Shai makes an important point here. Our political disagreements matter, but I don’t need to agree with someone on every issue to stand beside them against antisemitism. ⠀ We spend so much time arguing with people who actually want many of the same things we do. I think we lose a lot when we forget that. ⠀ At Iron Dome Coffee, we donate 18% of our profits to organizations supporting Israel. ⠀ Comment DOME if you’d like to try our coffee. ⠀ Am Yisrael Chai 🇮🇱 ⠀ #irondomecoffee #standwithisrael #amyisraelchai
